We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camille Waldorf. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camille below.
Hi Camille, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I learned resilience as a child that it’s not about what happened to me it’s about what I choose to do about it. Making paintings, music, writing, acting, dance, film, or photography helped me connect to myself as an individual and a team member. Art helped me get through every hard time or tragity allowing me to be resilient from what happened and drive my heart and emotions into a focused art form thus using that energy to find truth and self-love. This helped me create a counter experience from pain or disappointment. The arts gave me the tools to bounce back with creation letting me live in. I resiliently created art the world that I want to live in, & stay here to do my part.
This was my response to those people or experiences that tried to stop, hurt, crush, or sabotage my art or spirit. Art and expression are what became my voice. as a child that if you express yourself to people they can use it against you or hurt you even more. So when a person you should feel safe with or trust betrays you or turns on you art is the only thing I could trust was art to understand, & always be there for me. Art allows us to make the world we want to create and live in not give power to those who want to hurt or destroy us. The arts, & spiritual practice helped me to believe in my connection to a higher power. This honesty with myself helped my resilience against the darkness of life so I can hold the light for myself and those who need it in this world. I had to be resilient so that none could make or break me. Create the work, create the reality, and use all hardships as the fuel. I could be quiet, and alone and create resiliently in my meditation as it creates my connection to my higher power into the light.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have a brand called camillewaldorf.com where you can buy all the original paintings and drawings. All the images of my fine artwork are sold in my product line. My products range from phone cases, tote bags, pillows, metal prints, canvas prints, photo prints, ceramic mugs, t-shirts, art posters, framed prints, acrylic prints, and digital images.
Camille Waldorf is a fine art painter, Award-winning Actress, singer-songwriter, Model film & music producer, music engineer, and film & music editor, who produces, storyboards, directs, & edits her music videos. Camille is the author of “Unframed” a book on 20 years of her fine art.
I grew up on a horse ranch in Santa Cruz California and started my career as an Equestrian Horse Vaulter and rider at the age of 4 years old making the USA team by the age of fourteen. At four I also started music on piano, drums, violin, marimbas, and flute. I began art classes painting, and ballet classes at that age.
At thirteen I started college at Cabrillo College because I knew it would take at least ten years to study each art form. At sixteen I transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute to continue my studies in film, painting, photography, and sound for film. I started my acting, modeling, and ballet career at thirteen and worked throughout my school year to fund my projects. I learned to earn money from acting and modeling to fund my art so no one could control the process or outcome of my image or art. I am an artist, producer, writer, editor, and engineer.
As a talent and a visual artist, I could create my vision of what I wanted to be in this industry instead of falling into a stereotype based on my external qualities. I want to make what I want to be as a female in this industry for myself instead of giving my time and power away and waiting for someone to see me and make me happen. I am the artist and the creator so no one could take advantage of me. It was a way of becoming the system, protecting myself and my integrity.
I love to do multi-media shows with my fine art paintings, perform music from my latest recordings, and offer merchandise from my company camillewaldorf.com making the original work available in fine art galleries but also affordable on my e-commerce business site a range of merchandise. I want to make my paintings more accessible to everyone. I love being connected to the community as that is what I love. I am also looking for charities to collaborate with for my online sales.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three Qualities I can pass on.
1. Always be on time, or be a half hour early for everything.
2. Treat everyone with respect and kindness as you would want to be treated.
3. Show gratitude daily and be grateful as you never know when you could be starting from zero yourself.
Three Skills
1. Always be open to learning how to improve and what your part is in each challenge in life.
2. Show your value by the work you produce not through others’ opinion
3. Crate the work you want to be in don’t wait for someone to permit you to happen
Three Knollageable
1. Listen to what people say as they are telling you who they are and how they feel about you
2. Surround yourself with loving supportive people who you can trust. Even if that’s just you at times
3. Never stop or give up on your dreams because giving up is not an option see it all the way through.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I look to my higher power and team of support. I ask for whatever I am going through to be lifted and turned over. I ask for help and drain my tears in prayer or meditation when I feel like I can’t handle situations or if I didn’t handle them well. I accept I am not in control of anything or anyone, All I can do is pray or call fellows and ask for an ear or guidance. I spend time with my dog and go to nature around horses. I feel that nature is so important to my existence. I feel free of all man’s devices and societal structures when I am in the forest. The forest on the back of a horse where I can hear nature I like to be quiet and listen. No cars, no people, no technology just nature. Take the time to rest and take the time you need to heal. In the forest, I feel richer than anything that man can offer, and it’s the place I always ran from harm to feel the most safe in.
