Meet Camm Lewis

We recently connected with Camm Lewis and have shared our conversation below.

Camm , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Its so crazy because you would think that a person who choses to get up and sing in front of people would have a lot of confidence and self-esteem, but in my case its really the exact opposite. Its definitely got better over the years, but its still not great and in some ways really holds me back. I believe its important to not let the fear of failing stop you from doing something you really love so that belief is what really gives me the confidence to continue to put myself out there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Music is my passion, but its not what i do for a living. I am a Welding and Coatings Inspector for a living and music is what I do because I love it. I am married with 3 kids so work comes first then music. i am not sure where my music will take me honestly, so I write and perform wherever I can get booked to share my art. I am excited about the future and where it may take me because some pretty cool things have been happening here lately. I recently had my first headlining ticketed show at The Peoples Listening Room of Mobile and it sold out. That was hard to wrap my head around, but it happened and I’m thankful that it did.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Thats a great question! The most important thing is humility for me. I can remember over a decade ago when I just wanted to get booked at any venue I could and was crazy excited when it finally happened. I want to bottle that feeling up and try to always remember that when the crowd doesnt seem as interested sometimes, its all part of the process. next thing is hard work. I know its something thats a passion but theres work involved and youve got to be okay with that. Comparison is the thief of joy! I am constantly telling my self this. keep your nose down and be honest and itll work itself out.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

“All over but the shoutin” by Rick Bragg. I love everything he writes, but this one is my favorite. He tells stories of his upbringing from his point of view as kid growing up in Rural Alabama. I can relate to so many things he talks about and it just captures me the way he can describe it so perfectly. He is just such a true story teller. I want to write like him!
