We recently connected with Camry Reese and have shared our conversation below.
Camry, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
It’s really a full round story! My mother was a hairstylist, so the salon was like home number 2 and being in the salon all my life I made up in my mind that I didn’t want to be a Hairstylist. That’s what everyone wanted or expected me to be but little did I know it was going to be a passion of mine. Becoming I hairstylist was the plan that if all else fails that’s what I’ll do. I actually went to school for something that wasn’t even on my list then went straight into Cosmetology school and fell in love! The creativity, the science behind it all, the business, everything about hair!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a now 5 1/2 year, 28 year old Cosmetologist I knew God download Layer’s for me to see it through. As a beginning Hairstylist, I had to work two jobs to support my lifestyle and I picked up a second job working at a warehouse. In December 2019 during my shift God gave me a vision of Layer’s. He downloaded ideas, strategies and blueprints on what it actually was and the mission of what it was supposed to be. I was so excited by the vision that I instantly went to the restroom and called my mother to tell her what God just dropped in my spirit to do. At 3 am in the morning, I went home & started drawing and writing everything that God was giving me to do. I had over 50+ T-shirt ideas etc. I knew Layer’s was a ministry for behind the chair!
Layer’s Stylist is a Christian based T-shirt company that provides more than just T-shirts!
Layer’s catering to the Cosmetology & Barbering industry to encourage hairstylists & barbers to not be ashamed Of being Holy Spirit filled behind to chair! We want them to be able to use their daily platform to encourage others while expressing themselves in God to their clients by wearing & purchasing Layer’s apparel! It’s time to change the conversations in the salons & barbershops from gossip to gospel! God helped me realize that people come into the shop one way & still leave the same way they came & he placed on my heart to help change that narrative. Clients pour out & vent to us on a daily basis & no one is pouring back into them the right things and so God entrusted me to do just that, which is to witness to my client and fill them up with a word from God, whatever that may look like! As hairstylists & Barber, we help make people feel good on the outside and it’s time to be able to make them feel good on the inside as while by uplifting their spirits. So not only do we get a chance to change looks but alway change hearts & mindsets!! Our faith behind the chair matters!
Layer’s is still growing & I’m still building my team but I know God has so much in store! I’m just glad he chose me to do it! Looking back, were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve always been a watchman, so being a child that practically lived in the salon witnessing my mother actually doing what I am most passionate about today and it becoming a full circle moment for me would be the best impact on me. Seeing her sharing the gospel & praying with her clients at a young age at the time didn’t seem important to me but now I’m a adult I see the value in have a truly relationship with Jesus Christ for myself & to be able to keep the legacy in my family going within this industry. My mother impacted me in way I didn’t even fully understand growing up but the Lord as a way of bringing thing to the forefront.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Challenges I have right now is forming the right team of people that knows that are called & purposed for Layer’s and staying in God timing with everything. I can sometimes get excited with the things that he shows me & want to launch & create instantaneous but it may not be right moment in time to do so. I have to humble myself, rest on it, pray about it & then wait for for green light or red light, all while know it’ll work out for my good in the end!
