Meet Candace Color

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Candace Color. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Candace below.

Hi Candace, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Developing my confidence and self esteem has been a journey within itself. I believe each time I evolve to a higher consciousness of myself, it requires more confidence and self esteem each time. It’s a continuous journey. I develop it by going within. Accepting myself completely. Seeing myself how I feel and know God sees me. It’s a spiritual process for me. In turn, I receive the confidence and self esteem or shall I say, POWER, to be able to create from a raw and authentic place, unapologetically me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My focus is entirely on creating. Rather as an Actress, Artist, Writer, or Film Maker. I am mostly focused on my Acting career. I have put a lot of time and energy into training and studying the craft for 7 years so far. It has been a journey and I am proud and excited of how far I’ve come and where I am going! I have no doubt, I will go further. In the meantime, I created my own Production Company 2 years ago called Candace Color Productions. I also have trained to write as well. So, I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in my own 3 short films, that I am very proud of. My first film called Big Black Labrador (comedy) has won a couple film festivals. I plan to continue to create and make space for myself and others in my community under my production company.

My alternate focus is my company Wall Candy. I do original oil paintings. My style is Realism. I also do Murals and build Accent Walls. This brings me great pleasure as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One of the qualities that is a must have for Acting, for me is really studying the craft of acting and myself. The only way to true authentic acting, requires you to go within and understand yourself on all levels.
Understanding your behaviors and the human condition has been a quality that has helped me to be able to bring my full authentic self to any scene and understand the mind of any character I am portraying to connect. A healthy mind is needed in the craft of acting. To be able to bring on emotions for a character that some deem unhealthy such as sadness or depression, a person needs to be able to come out of that emotion in a healthy way. This can only be done with a healed and healthy mind. So I recommend, inner work to anyone coming into the craft.

Another quality is remaining a student in the craft. Always be open to grow and learn. It never stops. It’s always more discoveries in this craft and even scenes. Remaining a student removes an unhealthy ego. An ego can stunt your growth and even limit opportunities for a person.

The other quality is learning the craft of WRITING. When I became a student of writing, it opened up so many perspectives for me as an Actress. The classic and best movies start from amazing, intentional writers. In turn, I am able to know exactly what the writers mean and why they wrote even the most simplistic thing in a script, has given me a leg up as an actress/storyteller.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

I am a huge book reader and own several books. This is a hard question to answer but if I had to say one right now, I would say a book called “The Seat of the Soul” by Gary Zukav. It explores the concept of authentic power and the evolution of human consciousness and tapping into your true authentic self.
