Meet Candice Denise

We recently connected with Candice Denise and have shared our conversation below.

Candice, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from a combination of factors that have shaped me over time. Firstly, my personal traits and temperament play a significant role. I tend to maintain a positive outlook, which helps me see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable obstacles. Additionally, I have developed a strong sense of adaptability, allowing me to adjust my approach and mindset when faced with adversity.

Moreover, supportive relationships have been instrumental in cultivating my resilience. I am fortunate to have a network of family, friends, and mentors who offer unwavering support, understanding, and encouragement. Their presence in my life provides me with a safety net during difficult times and empowers me to persevere.

Past experiences have also played a crucial role in shaping my resilience. Overcoming previous hardships and setbacks has instilled in me a sense of resilience and confidence. Those experiences have shown me that I possess the inner strength and abilities to overcome challenges, even when the path seems daunting.

Furthermore, my coping strategies and problem-solving skills have contributed to my resilience. I have honed the ability to identify available resources, seek assistance when necessary, and develop effective strategies to manage stress and setbacks. These skills have empowered me to navigate through difficult situations and find solutions.

My belief systems and sense of purpose have also played a significant role in building resilience. I have a strong set of personal values and a clear sense of purpose, which provide me with motivation, direction, and a solid foundation during challenging times. They serve as a reminder of what truly matters to me and enable me to stay focused and determined.

Lastly, nurturing my emotional well-being and mental health is crucial to my resilience. I prioritize self-care, engage in activities that bring me joy and fulfillment, and seek support when needed. Taking care of my emotional health equips me with the strength and clarity of mind to face adversity head-on.

In essence, my resilience is an amalgamation of personal traits, supportive relationships, past experiences, coping strategies, belief systems, and emotional well-being. It is a dynamic and evolving quality that I continuously cultivate and strengthen.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Continuous Learning: Embracing a mindset of continuous learning and growth is crucial in any journey. Strive to expand your knowledge, skills, and perspectives. Seek out opportunities for learning, whether through formal education, reading books, attending workshops or conferences, or engaging in online courses. Stay curious, be open to new experiences, and embrace challenges as opportunities to develop new skills. Actively seek feedback, and be willing to adapt and evolve along the way.

The advice for individuals in the early stages of their journey is to focus on self-reflection, self-improvement, and being open to new experiences. Take the time to understand yourself, your passions, and your values. Set clear goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Be patient and kind to yourself, as personal growth takes time. Seek out mentors or role models who can provide guidance and support. Surround yourself with a supportive community that shares your interests and goals.

Remember to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success and approach challenges with a growth mindset. Stay curious, keep learning, and be adaptable. Most importantly, trust the process and enjoy the journey, as personal growth is a lifelong endeavor.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Feeling overwhelmed is a common experience I’ve had, and there are several strategies you can employ to help manage those feelings. Here are some suggestions for what to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed:

1. Take a step back: When you’re overwhelmed, it’s important to take a break and create some space for yourself. Step away from the situation or task causing the overwhelm, even if it’s just for a few minutes. This can help you gain perspective and clarity.

2. Practice deep breathing or mindfulness: Engaging in deep breathing exercises or mindfulness techniques can help calm your mind and bring you back to the present moment. Focus on your breath, observe your surroundings, or engage in a short meditation. This can help reduce anxiety and bring a sense of calm.

3. Prioritize and break it down: Overwhelm often stems from having too much on your plate. Take a moment to prioritize your tasks or responsibilities. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps. This way, you can tackle them one at a time, which can make the overall workload feel more manageable.

4. Reach out for support: Don’t hesitate to seek support from others. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or colleague about what you’re experiencing. Sometimes, simply sharing your feelings can provide relief and offer a fresh perspective. Others may also be able to offer guidance or practical help.

5. Practice self-care: Engaging in self-care activities is crucial when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Take time to engage in activities that help you relax and recharge, such as taking a walk in nature, listening to music, practicing a hobby, or engaging in physical exercise. Prioritizing self-care can help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being.

6. Break the cycle of perfectionism: Overwhelm can often be triggered by perfectionistic tendencies. Remember that it’s okay to prioritize self-compassion and let go of unrealistic expectations. Set realistic goals, celebrate small wins, and remind yourself that you’re doing your best.

7. Seek professional help if needed: If feelings of overwhelm persist or significantly impact your daily life, it may be helpful to seek support from a mental health professional. They can provide guidance, tools, and techniques tailored to your specific situation.

Remember, everyone’s experience of overwhelm is different, and it’s important to find what works best for you. Experiment with different strategies and techniques to discover what helps you manage overwhelm effectively.
