Meet Candice Guertin- Carey

We recently connected with Candice Guertin- Carey and have shared our conversation below.

Candice , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose in the quiet moments of shavasana at the end of a hot yoga class. At the time, I felt lost and frustrated with my job and turned to yoga and meditation to relieve stress and anxiety. In those moments of stillness—hearing my heartbeat and connecting with my breath—I realized I needed a significant change. I applied to graduate school and earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a Child and Parent Coach and the founder of Gifted Coaching NW and Balanced Counseling NW, based in Beaverton, Oregon. I specialize in somatic practices that support emotional regulation. With extensive experience working with gifted children and their families, I help them navigate the unique challenges that come with high intelligence, intensity, sensitivity, and asynchrony. Drawing on my background in counseling and somatic work, I provide practical strategies to foster self-awareness and balance. I’m passionate about equipping parents, educators, and administrators with the tools they need to support the well-being of gifted learners.

I currently offer coaching and consulting services both in person and virtually, allowing me to support families internationally.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three skills that have had the greatest impact on my life—and continue to shape me—are resilience, adaptability, and discipline. Physical movement has been a constant thread in my life, shaping my growth and mindset. Specifically, long-distance running, CrossFit, and yoga have played a key role in developing these invaluable skills. For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: find a way to move that you enjoy. Keep moving, have fun, and embrace the process. Vitality and health are the foundation for success in every aspect of life

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The current challenge that I am facing is deciding on how I want to scale my businesses. There are several different directions that I could take, but I haven’t landed on one yet. I’m currently talking with other business professionals and doing research to help me identify the next step.
