Meet Candice Renner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Candice Renner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Candice below.

Candice, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome wasn’t an overnight process, but a combination of mindset shifts and proactive steps really helped me build confidence. One of the biggest things was surrounding myself with community. I made a point to network with other planners and vendors, which reminded me that I wasn’t alone in feeling that way. I wasn’t afraid to ask questions or admit when I didn’t know something, and I quickly realized that most people in this industry are incredibly supportive and willing to share their knowledge.

I also took opportunities to shadow experienced planners and assist on weddings whenever I could. Seeing how others handled events behind the scenes gave me real-world insight and reassurance that I was more capable than I gave myself credit for. On top of that, I invested in educational workshops to strengthen both my skills and industry knowledge, which helped replace doubt with competence.

Finally, I embraced the fact that mistakes are part of growth. Instead of fearing them, I viewed every challenge as a learning experience. With time, I realized that confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything…it comes from being resourceful, staying calm under pressure, and continuously learning.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m in my third year of running my event planning business, where I specialize in curating elevated, thoughtfully designed weddings and events. What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to transform a couple’s vision or a brand’s concept into an unforgettable experience—one that feels authentic, intentional, and beautifully executed. Every event is a blank canvas, and I love weaving together the details, design, and logistics to create something truly meaningful.

Recently, I expanded my brand with the launch of The Editorial Series, a passion project designed to inspire and empower fellow creatives in the wedding industry. The Editorial Series is a curated collection of high-end styled shoots that not only produce publication-worthy content but also give photographers, videographers, and other wedding professionals the chance to refine their portfolios, build connections, and unlock new opportunities. I know firsthand how important strong visuals and networking are when growing a business, and this series is my way of helping others reach their full potential.

Whether I’m planning a wedding, an intimate celebration, or hosting one of these editorials, my goal is always the same—to create moments and content that resonate, inspire, and stand the test of time.

I’m excited for what’s ahead, from upcoming events to expanding The Editorial Series into new markets. It’s been such a rewarding journey so far, and I’m passionate about continuing to foster community, creativity, and growth within this industry.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Adaptability: In the world of event planning, things rarely go exactly as planned…and that’s okay! Being able to pivot gracefully, problem-solve on the fly, and stay calm under pressure has been invaluable. For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to embrace flexibility. The more you view challenges as opportunities to get creative rather than setbacks, the more confident and capable you’ll become.

Relationship-Building: This industry thrives on connections. Building genuine relationships—with vendors, clients, and peers has opened so many doors for me. It’s not just about networking; it’s about creating a community where you support each other’s growth. I recommend showing up authentically, being generous with your collaboration, and remembering that reputation and trust are everything.

Continuous Learning: No matter how much experience you gain, there’s always more to learn! Whether it’s trends, business strategies, or refining your craft. Early on, I took workshops, asked questions, shadowed other planners, and sought feedback. My advice is to stay curious and invest in your growth. Education doesn’t stop once you launch your business; it’s what will keep you evolving and staying ahead.

Ultimately, success comes from a balance of mindset, skill-building, and community. Be patient with yourself, stay open to learning, and surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. That’s where the real growth happens.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

As a solo-preneur and mom, it’s easy to fall into the habit of saying yes to everything, especially early on when you’re building momentum. But I’ve realized that real growth comes from being intentional, not just busy. I’m focusing on taking projects that truly align with my passion and vision, like expanding The Editorial Series, rather than stretching myself thin.

Work-life balance is also a constant challenge. Running a business while raising a family means I have to be mindful of my time and energy. I’m learning to set boundaries, outsource where I can, and remind myself that saying no often creates space for what really matters, both in business and at home.

It’s still a work in progress, but being intentional with my choices has made all the difference!
