We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Candice Toney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Candice, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is rooted in the unwavering commitment I witnessed from my parents. Watching them diligently show up for work every day, never calling in sick, and working tirelessly to provide for our family, instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility that I have imparted to my own son.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I take immense pride in my journey as a resin artist, especially considering I began during the pandemic. It brings me great joy to have transformed my hobby into a thriving business. Not only do I offer one of a kind luxury accent pieces for homes, but I have also extended a helping hand to aspiring resin artists. Through my Resin in a Box ®️ program, I have successfully taught over 100 individuals the art of creating their own stunning resin pieces.
My resin educational courses encompass various formats, including live group sessions via Zoom, personalized one-on-one guidance, and self-paced learning. The positive feedback and growth I have witnessed have been truly rewarding.
As my business approaches its three-year milestone in January, I eagerly anticipate expanding further. My goal is to introduce my resin art home decor collection to physical stores by 2024, allowing more people to experience the beauty and craftsmanship firsthand.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, I believe that hard work, consistency, and discipline were the three qualities that had the most impact on my success. These qualities allowed me to persevere even when faced with adversity and the temptation to give up. As an entrepreneur juggling a full-time job, I faced time constraints, but I never made excuses and remained committed to my goals.
In terms of advice for those who are early in their journey, my biggest recommendation is to find a mentor. Having a mentor by your side can provide invaluable guidance and support. However, it’s important to note that being a good mentee is equally crucial. Be open to feedback, actively seek their advice, and be willing to implement their suggestions.
Lastly, don’t try to shoulder all the responsibilities on your own indefinitely. It’s essential to recognize your weaknesses or areas where you need assistance. Reach out to skilled individuals who have expertise in those areas and ask for their help. Delegating tasks and receiving support not only prevents burnout but also allows you to focus on what you do best.
Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight, and the journey can be challenging. But with hard work, consistency, discipline, mentorship, and seeking assistance when needed, you’ll be better equipped to navigate the path towards your goals.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Realizing the significance of my health, I made it a priority. Now, I am physically and mentally strong, allowing me to successfully manage my business.
