We were lucky to catch up with Candy Hoehn recently and have shared our conversation below.

Candy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose not in a single moment, but through a deeply personal journey rooted in my own family life.

Before starting my business, I was already enthralled by the emotions captured in high-quality photography, especially wedding photography, which led me to invest in my first professional camera. However, my true purpose crystallized when my son was born. Watching him grow and being able to capture those fleeting moments—his tiny expressions, his milestones—I realized the immense, irreplaceable joy that a photograph holds. Looking back at those pictures now, the memories come flooding back, and that connection is priceless.

My purpose became clear: to ensure that other families have these same tangible, emotive memories.

This is why SugaShoc Photography is more than just a session; it’s a full-service experience focused on creating heirloom art. My purpose is to elevate the act of capturing a moment into an act of service and empowerment—whether it’s celebrating a pregnancy, preserving a newborn’s first two weeks, or helping a client see their own strength and beauty in a boudoir session.

My business is a direct reflection of my personal purpose: to document the joy, happiness, and laughter in my clients’ lives, allowing them to relive those moments forever.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At SugaShoc Photography, I am a full-service photographer specializing in creating empowering and emotional portraiture, with a primary focus on Maternity, Newborn, and Boudoir/Beauty sessions, as well as Family photography. We are based in Doylestown, PA, and have been serving Bucks County and the surrounding areas since 2013.

What I feel is most special and exciting about what I do is that I don’t just take pictures; I create a transformative experience and timeless family heirlooms.

Every session is designed to make the client feel pampered and beautiful. We begin with an in-home design consultation, and the session fee includes professional hair and makeup services. This full-service approach, combined with my extensive collection of gorgeous gowns, robes, props, and accessories, means my clients simply get to show up and be the star of their day.

This ties directly into the heart of my brand: Empowerment and Confidence. When you look at my ‘Before and After’ gallery, you see beautiful transformations, and it reinforces our philosophy that you are beautiful now. As one client perfectly put it, they were doing the session for themselves, wanting their kids and grand-kids to look back and see how proud they were in their own skin. That is the emotion I am honored to capture.

For those looking to document their little ones, we offer the ‘Grow with Me’ Baby Plan, and we specialize in custom-styled newborn sessions to preserve those precious first few weeks, as well as fun-themed Cake Smash sessions. We also guide clients through selecting and creating tangible, high-quality art, like Custom Heirloom Albums and unique wall art, because these memories deserve to be preserved off a screen.

My goal is for every person who comes to SugaShoc Photography to leave with a powerful, beautiful image of themselves and their loved ones, knowing they’ve been seen and celebrated.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three Impactful Qualities:
Specialized Technical Mastery: Committing to and mastering the demanding technical skills needed for Newborn safety, Boudoir posing, and specialized lighting across all my niches.

Client Experience Design: Structuring the business as a full-service model (consultation, H&M, high-end products) to ensure a luxury, stress-free client journey.

Brand Authenticity & Empathy: Using my personal family inspiration to build trust and focusing the brand’s mission on client empowerment and confidence.

Advice for Folks Starting Out:
Specialization: Don’t be a generalist. Choose one or two niches and invest heavily in specialized training to become the undisputed expert in your market.

Service: Elevate your service by designing a seamless full-service experience. Focus on providing heirloom products, not just digital files, to maximize value and client satisfaction.

Connection: Share your genuine “why” and focus on the emotional purpose of the images. Authenticity builds a powerful, long-lasting brand connection.

My ideal client is someone who is looking for more than just a quick session; they are looking for a full-service, luxury experience and a long-term artistic partnership.
