Meet Captain Dwayne Green

We recently connected with Captain Dwayne Green and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Captain Dwayne, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I take immense pride in acknowledging that my strong work ethic comes directly from my parents. My father, a dedicated farmer in Southeast Texas, and my mother, who dedicated over thirty years to the local school district, set a remarkable example for me. Their commitment to preparing for each day, despite the long hours and sacrifices made away from family, greatly influenced me.

From as early as 13, and even younger, I would rise every summer once school was out to help my dad on the farm—whether it was getting the fields ready for harvest, planting new crops, or assisting neighboring farmers during their harvests. My parents taught me the value of taking pride in a job well done and the importance of hard work. They instilled in me the understanding that nothing worthwhile comes easily, and that the effort you put into every part of your life directly impacts the rewards you receive.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Totally Texas Outdoors LLC is a Christian-based outdoor company specializing in hunts and fishing experiences tailored for passionate hunters and anglers. We take pride in our exceptional guides, who are not only skilled outdoorsmen but also wonderful individuals, especially when it comes to working with children. We love witnessing families come together to enjoy the great outdoors, whether they’re hunting Whitetail deer, ducks, spring turkeys, or wild hogs, or casting lines for beautiful speckled trout and redfish in Matagorda Bay.

We believe in the importance of quality time spent with friends and family, and we strive to make every moment with our clients memorable and cherished. Our faith plays a significant role in our activities, as we always take the time to pray before events and meals. We also enjoy gathering for family-style dining, sharing stories and experiences from our days spent in the field or on the water.

Operating from our base in Matagorda Texas, we relish everything that our saltwater paradise has to offer. In North Texas, from our location in Nocona, we take advantage of the stunning Red River territory, which boasts abundant white-tailed deer, excellent waterfowl hunting, wild hogs, and spring turkeys.

We are incredibly grateful for our outstanding team, including the wonderful ladies who prepare our first-class meals, and the beautiful lodging accommodations provided by Marty and Stacy Irwin. Our hunting experiences are enhanced by access to approximately 7,500 acres of low-fence hunting land, generously offered by the Combs family. Without their support, we wouldn’t be the success we are today.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

When it comes to qualities, knowledge, or skills, that’s an insightful question. First and foremost, it’s crucial to recognize that you don’t know everything. Stay open-minded and embrace learning in whatever path you choose in life. Listen to others, accept constructive criticism without taking offense, and strive to understand their expectations and what they hope to gain from their experiences.

Secondly, I would emphasize the importance of loving what you do. Discover a passion that motivates you and drives you towards success, and share that enthusiasm to create a positive experience for those you interact with daily.

Lastly, always show respect for others. Regardless of their circumstances—whether they are less fortunate or more privileged than you—it’s essential to foster relationships that benefit both parties. Aim to create connections that will have a lasting impact long after your initial encounters.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

I don’t believe there’s a single defining action my parents took that shaped me the most; rather, it’s a combination of several influences. First and foremost, they have loved me unconditionally throughout my life. I know I’ve disappointed them at times, yet they have always supported and cared for me, regardless of my missteps. While they have never enabled me to stray down a negative path, they have consistently offered their opinions, instilling core values in me that have enriched my life in ways I may not fully deserve.

My parents have not only nurtured my faith in the good Lord but have also demonstrated how to live each day with purpose. They weren’t just the kind of parents who took me to church on Sundays and expected me to absorb everything; they lived their beliefs. Through their actions, they have shown me kindness, love, generosity, discipline, and structure throughout my entire upbringing. That, I believe, is what I am most grateful for.

As I mentioned before, they instilled in me a strong work ethic and taught me the importance of loving my family—something that seems increasingly challenging for many in today’s world. I am truly thankful that my parents have modeled authentic love, not just in how they care for me and my brothers, but also in how they love each other and their friends, always prioritizing family in everything they do.
