We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Capucine Safir a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Capucine , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity is a dynamic. To cultivate this dynamic, I need to stay curious about the world around me, ask questions, explore new subjects, and seek out diverse experiences. I never stop learning, whether it’s listening to a podcast, attending workshops, or taking up a new hobby, continuous learning stimulates my mind and inspires fresh ideas.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a French artist who has been living and working in Miami for the past ten years.
Throughout my professional life, I have worn different hats, starting from being a camera woman, extra casting director in the movie industry, and interior designer, before finally finding my calling as a visual artist. I attribute the last one to my second son who was born with multiple disabilities. When my son was born, I had to prioritize his care over my job and became a full-time caregiver. It’s in the little free time I had that I discovered my love for carving stone. I found that I was able to pour my energy and emotions into my art, and it provided me with a much-needed outlet during a challenging time in my life.
Over time, my art began to take on a life of its own, and I started to share it with others. I found that my work resonated with people in ways that I never could have predicted, and it gave me a sense of purpose and joy that I may have thought was lost forever.
My work is very minimalistic, and abstract characterized by clean lines, simple forms, and a neutral color palette. I work with a range of mediums, including sculpture, painting, and drawing.
I’m inspired by nature and women’s bodies. I’m fascinated by the curves and lines of women’s bodies and the smoothness and strength they represent at the same time. My art is a celebration of femininity and a beautiful expression of the world around me.
My preoccupation as an artist is to challenge myself in my practice. I’m led by the “less is more” moto, I try to evoke the most with the minimum.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In the journey of being an artist, solitude is often a companion. It’s a path where we must learn to confront and embrace our inner selves. My strengths, including physical strength, intuition, and a propensity for doubt, equip me to navigate this solitary journey with resilience and introspection. I recognize the importance of self-awareness and self-reflection in the creative process, as they enable me to continually evolve and deepen my artistic expression.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
As a sculptor, I find myself without a studio space to work in at the moment, and working from home is not a viable option. Much like during the pandemic, this situation challenges me to be even more creative in finding ways to continue my artistic practice and develop new series of artworks. Despite the limitations, I am determined to adapt and explore unconventional avenues for creation, drawing inspiration from my surroundings and utilizing whatever resources are available to me
