We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carey Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carey below.
Hi Carey, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Teachers. It all came from teachers. In my first year of acting school, my acting teacher took me aside after class one day, looked me straight in the eye and said, “You can do this. You’re good at this. You have a future with this if you want it.” That was a life-changing moment for me. I never looked back after that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an actor, a writer and a director. I also run an acting school. I’m currently a recurring character on the HBO show “Winning Time.” I play Dr. Robert Kerlan, the real-life team doctor for the Lakers basketball team. I also just directed a film in South Carolina starring Judd Nelson (“The Breakfast Club”) for SONY Pictures, due for a July release.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. A willingness to be vulnerable, experimental and to take risks. 2. Studying hard and consistently.
3. Good common sense.
Study, study, study! Don’t think you can get by on good looks and charm alone. There is always someone better looking and more charming. Learn your craft well. Be educated.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge for me as a filmmaker – and every filmmaker I know – is raising funds. It’s incredibly difficult to raise money for a film. But, it can be done! I’ve done it but it is always a huge obstacle.
