We recently connected with Cari Caramonta and have shared our conversation below.
Cari, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life until I met my husband Zac. I always joked that I was a business woman with no business because I always felt very determined, curious and tenacious in everything I did. I’ve always been creative and knew that I wanted to create something special and unique, but I didn’t know what that was until I married Zac. We worked together on different art projects and we worked so well together. I knew we were destined to create something bigger and once he started home brewing and quickly became obsessed and very good at it, I knew we had found our purpose. I enjoyed creating a brand and focusing on the marketing of our new brewery while he focused on brewing the liquid. Not only was creating Gnarly Barley fulfilling our needs for artistic expression but it became a place for us to do so much more than brew beer.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My husband Zac and I own and operate Gnarly Barley Brewing in Hammond Louisiana along with our amazing crew. We also have two young daughters. We just celebrated 10 amazing years and we are looking forward to many more. We absolutely love our local community. We plan to continue to produce quality craft beer for the gulf south while having a taproom that’s a destination for great beer, friendship and fun!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Finding the right fit for our team has been so important. It’s crucial to find the right people for your team. Creating a work culture that’s enjoyable also goes hand in hand with that. Leaning on those employees for help has also been very important because as we grew we HAD to let go of some responsibilities and pass the torch. Which is hard to do, but completely necessary in order to grow and not get burned out.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Time management is always a challenge for me. There is always plenty to juggle when you have a business and two young daughters that need your attention. I want to give my all to both, so learning how to navigate that has been an interesting challenge. Delegating tasks has been something I’ve learned to embrace since I can’t do it all. Thankfully we have a very capable team to help lighten the load. We couldn’t do it without them.
