Meet Carli jay

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carli Jay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carli, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?

This is something that came naturally to me and I wasn’t even aware I was a “risk-taker” so to speak, I thought this was just what people did, go after things you want, chase dreams and all that jazz. It wasn’t until others pointed it out to me during my late 20’s and early 30’s as I met new people or shared my story through podcasts and interviews that people started saying to me “Your Courageous” or “Wow that’s so brave” and I didn’t really understand what they meant. I thought, ‘why i’m just some girl living my life?’… I didn’t think what I was doing was anything special.

But then I came to learn that along with my risk taking, my willpower, adventurous spirit, curious personality and my optimistic approach that I give to EVERYTHING, wasn’t so common, but I realized it was something I’d had for as long as I could remember.

Growing up in Australia, I felt I always had thick-skin and believed that when there’s will there’s a way, and I guess i lived by that. If i came up with an idea, that I just couldn’t stop thinking about, I had to do it. And every time I accomplished something I dreamt or visualized, it spurred me on to keep ‘dreaming and doing’…. So In a nut shell I wanted my dreams in real life. I didn’t just want them to be visions.

And with that sometimes you have to take risks, they can be calculated risks, and planned risks, but they’re still risks. Sometimes you will never know how something is going to work out until you try. And in life you just have to keep trying. No matter how many times things take you, try a different way, or fail, you still tried and learnt. And I think this gives me satisfaction. Giving something a go and seeing how far I can get, seeing where something takes me and using risk’s as stepping stones to the next destination.

One of my favorite sayings I use with my clients is; ‘go as far as you can see and when you get there you’ll probably be able to see further’. Often people don’t start things in life because they don’t know how it’s going to shape out. But if you just take it day by day and start, you’ll soon see how it will work out! And you may even get more greater ideas on the journey.

And in a way this is how I live my life, I just keep going, keep trying and keep seeing where life takes me. Don’t get me wrong I do plan somethings, and make sure my risks are smart moves, but ironically sometimes I don’t and I have to take that ‘risk’ and find out! So far it’s working out to be a pretty good way of living!

I left Australia on a whim at 24 years old, with one bag of clothes and back packed across the world, trying not to fly if there was a land or sea mode of transport. I travelled across 25 countries and over 100 cities in 6 months to get from Sydney to London. I didn’t know what was in store for me, but I truly believe this risk was the catalyst that changed my life and started my story. I ended up staying in London for 12 years, building a life for myself, a great career, losing 140lbs, writing a book about it, documenting it on instgram, quitting my corporate job, starting a business and then moved across the world again to Los Angeles. So I guess when I look back at my life, I can now proudly say risk taking is a skill of mine i’m so lucky to have!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My business Miss Carli Jay Corporation’s main goal and focus is improving the lives and achieving goals of anyone we work with. I do this through educating and coaching my clients using various strategies and proven methods to find the right bespoke solutions to get them where they want to be. My main clientele is usual surrounded around Health, Nutrition, Fitness, Personal Development and life coaching, with individuals, brands, business and professional athletes.

Along side this I also volunteer my time for a nonprofit Pro-Am Basketball team and it’s players in a community lead league here in Los, Angeles, California by improving the team as a whole, the structure, their lives, health & wellbeing and game.

Overall I just love helping people get to where they want to be in life, and I think this relates back to my own life, and how I said what came naturally to me doesn’t always come naturally to everyone else, so if i can help motivate, encourage or inspire someone to go after what they want in life, get themselves right, and accomplish their own goals, then we all win at the end of the day, and that’s what life is for! To keep winning, enjoying life, work together and be at your best!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think 3 areas or skills that have served me well in life is my general knowledge of the world and the people in it, as i feel it helps me deal with any kind of client or problem, there is nothing I have seen or heard that has shocked, and i’ve never not been able to solve a problem, and i think this is because of my own life experiences.

Which leads me on to my 2nd area, i’m probably most grateful for, is the amount I have travelled!! Totaling 47 countries so far, I believe it has been the best education i’ve ever received. So if you ever get the change to travel please do, it’s the best way to open your mind and learn about others, cultures, religions, foods and life, that you simply can’t get from a book or studying! There is truly nothing like experience! and all that I believe helped with my world knowledge, and being able to relate and understand anyone I come across in life.

Then that leads me on to my 3rd; People Skills! Understanding people, why we do things, how we do things, behaviors, emotions, reactions, and our overall make up is key to working with people anywhere in the world. I’ve often been told I can make the most unlikely of people feel comfortable, understood and safe, which is probably one of the nicest compliments i’ve ever received, and in today’s world that is a very good attribute to have, and these 3 skills have really helped me get to where I am today, and i will forever be thankful for my own journey, because with out it I wouldn’t be able to help others like I do.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

Historically my clients have come in all forms, individuals, athletes, brands, corporate business or teams. No one is too big or too small. They just have to have one thing in common; a problem and a goal!

My ideal client is usually someone who has something going on in their life or business that they want to fix or improve, but may not necessarily know how to go about it or they want someone to help keep them accountable to get to where they want to be.

I love to come in and assess the problem, look at it from every angel, identify the main goal, and then see how are we going to get there, wether it be health orientated, wellbeing, overall life, branding & awareness, strategy, growth, personal development, day structure, career or all of the above to take yourself to the next level. I will come in and overhaul everything! I want to change your life for the better! So if that is you please get in touch for a consultation.
