We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carlo Gibson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carlo below.
Hi Carlo, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I remember working one day with my father . We were fixing a boat, one of his many side projects. I was about 12 I think. I was just messing around and board with scraping the varnish . He told me in a very matter of fact way “if the job is worth doing ,then its worth doing well.”
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a maker of things. I am especially interested in the human condition. I love story telling. I have been involved in all forms of design and art making.I have come to America from South Africa to teach and follow my artistic practice. I was a visiting Artist at the art institute of Chicago ,but am now making my own work.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance ,self belief, and tenacity. Keep on working and apply yourself to a disciplined way of life
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
As I am interested in the human condition, I am always looking for people to collaborate with. People I like to work with must be able to share their points of view strongly. Another characteristic I need in the people I work with is an ethic that understands that nothing is underneath you when working on a project. It is important to do what it takes to get the job done.
