We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carlos Carmen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
First of all, my optimism begins with my blind faith in God. It’s nurtured by my hope and my joy of living.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a musician, composer and singer. I write music and lyrics, and produced my first self-titled studio album with a minimal budget. Not being signed by any record label, I’ve had to swim against the current in achieving all my creative works. But that means, I have more personal pride and love for what I’ve been able to achieve.
At this time, the search for a management company that provides booking for shows, marketing and media continues. Miraculously, my music has been played in many FM radios, in many countries, without any promotion or support from any record companies.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most impactful personal qualities that compelled me to embark on a journey such as this one, may have been: love for what I do, courage to listen to my intuition, which is never wrong, and an open heart to listen and learn from all kinds of music styles.
But most importantly, the skill I keep honing everyday, is the skill to overcome fear of failure. This is what I would advise folks, if you fall a thousand times, you must get up a thousand times and continue. You must be ready and willing to do this, because challenges are guaranteed. So prepare to navigate these as they come.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Well, currently, the biggest challenge has been to find adequate management and booking partners with connections in the Latin market. I would love to find collaborators who can represent me and book live shows, local and international. To contact me, you can send an email to: megecarlos70@gmail.com
