We recently connected with Carlotta Schiavio and have shared our conversation below.
Carlotta , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from an inner drive that simply won’t back off. Creating art isn’t just something I do — it’s who I am. Life’s too short to spend doing anything that doesn’t light you up inside. So even when doors close or people say no, I keep moving forward. I trust the path I’m on, and I believe that every setback just redirects me toward something better.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an innovative mind in Contemporary Multimedia Arts. Born in Italy and raised in Ethiopia, my creative journey bridges cultures, perspectives, and worlds. My work explores identity, transformation, and the fusion of nature and technology — themes that shape both my art and my life.
As a recipient of the Extraordinary Talent in the Arts visa, I focus on creating immersive experiences that connect people to deeper layers of meaning. My art has been exhibited in galleries and cultural institutions across Europe, Africa, and the United States.
Recently, I’ve expanded my universe through storytelling with my children’s book, Bugibatuki Watershed Awareness, available on various online platforms. The Bugibatukis are the wonderful inhabitants of my planet, YaTii Talisman — beings who resolve any challenge in a positive way, without asking questions!
I’ve also just launched two Bugibatuki Merchandise Shops, where everyday objects become portals — wearables, journals, décor, and gadgets infused with purpose and imagination. You can explore them here:

Through every project, I aim to inspire curiosity, connection, and a sense of wonder — because art, for me, is the bridge between worlds seen and unseen.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe each one of us is born with a unique gift — something only we can bring into the world. The journey is really about discovering that gift and giving it space to grow.
For me, creativity and imagination have always been my strongest forces. Ideas come to me constantly — they just appear, often when I least expect them — and I’ve learned to trust that flow. My sense of humor and sense of harmony help me find balance and joy in the process, while my exposure to different cultures and languages from an early age gave me a wide lens through which to see the world. That mix of perspectives shaped how I create and how I connect with others through art.
My advice for anyone at the beginning of their journey is simple: never give up. Stay curious, keep experimenting, and don’t let rejection define your worth. Protect your creative spark — nurture it — because that’s the one thing no one else can replicate. Every step, even the difficult ones, brings you closer to your purpose.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! Collaboration is an essential part of my creative vision. I’m always open to connecting with individuals and organizations who share a passion for innovation, storytelling, and purposeful creation.
I see endless possibilities for collaboration. I would love to partner with fashion designers and stylists to create limited-edition wearable art collections that bring the spirit of the Bugibatukis into everyday life. I’m also interested in sustainability and environmental projects, especially those that align with the message of my children’s book, Bugibatuki Watershed Awareness — where art becomes a tool for education and conservation.
On the digital side, I’m open to collaborating with app developers, filmmakers, or digital artists to transform my imagined world, YaTii Talisman, into immersive experiences that people can explore virtually.
And of course, I value creative synergy with other artists, musicians, photographers, and writers — collaborations where we reinterpret each other’s visions and build bridges between different art forms.
Anyone who feels inspired to co-create or sees potential for alignment can reach out to me at [email protected] or www.yatii.com
Together, we can merge imagination with purpose — turning art into connection, storytelling, and positive impact.
