We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carly Fauth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carly, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through my journey of overcoming challenges, including my battle with triple-negative breast cancer. Pushing through difficult times, like continuing to teach fitness classes and work out during chemo, showed me the strength I never knew I had. Helping others as a fitness instructor and mentor also gave me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Sharing my story through my book Pray for the Bear and my podcast Chemo Coffee Talk has been empowering, as it connects me with others and reinforces the importance of resilience and authenticity in everything I do.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Carly Fauth, and my mission is to inspire people to find strength through movement and resilience. I am a fitness instructor, mentor, and the founder of FitFunCarly, a fitness program that encourages people to get fit in just 15 minutes a day. My journey through triple-negative breast cancer, during which I never missed a day of movement, showed me how transformative staying active can be—even in the face of life’s toughest challenges. It’s why I’m passionate about promoting fitness as a form of medicine, especially for those navigating their own battles.
What excites me most is my work supporting cancer patients through my GIFTT+ program (Guidance, Inspiration & Fitness Through Treatment and Beyond). This program helps patients stay active during treatment with tailored movement plans that honor their individual needs. I’m also thrilled to be leading a hiking, biking, and yoga retreat in Norway this summer, where participants will experience the beauty of nature while reconnecting with their strength. With a growing fitness community and programs like these, I’m constantly inspired by the resilience of those I have the privilege to work with.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, adaptability, and empathy.
Resilience has been essential, especially during my battle with triple-negative breast cancer. Life throws curveballs, and having the mental fortitude to face those challenges head-on has made all the difference. For those early in their journey, resilience grows with practice. Start small—take on challenges that push you slightly out of your comfort zone, and celebrate your wins along the way.
Adaptability has been another game-changer. Life doesn’t always go as planned, and being able to pivot without losing sight of your goals is crucial. Whether it’s shifting the way I teach fitness or finding new ways to support cancer patients through my GIFTT+ program, adaptability keeps me moving forward. To cultivate this skill, embrace change as an opportunity for growth and view obstacles as detours, not dead ends.
Lastly, empathy has transformed how I connect with others. Whether working with cancer patients, my fitness community, or sharing stories on my podcast, understanding someone else’s experience has created meaningful relationships and impact. My advice? Listen more than you speak. Genuine curiosity and compassion will deepen your connections and expand your perspective.
For anyone early in their journey, focus on small, intentional steps to build these qualities. Seek out challenges, embrace change, and prioritize human connection—it’s a combination that can lead to incredible growth.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! I am always looking to partner and collaborate with individuals and organizations who are passionate about making a positive impact, especially in the areas of health, fitness, and cancer support.
I’d love to work with healthcare professionals, fitness enthusiasts, nonprofit organizations, or brands that share my mission of empowering cancer patients and survivors through movement, education, and community. Whether it’s bringing awareness to the GIFTT+ program, creating specialized fitness content, or co-hosting events and retreats like my upcoming hiking, biking, and yoga retreat in Norway, I believe collaboration can amplify our efforts to make a difference.
I’m also excited to announce that I’m now offering motivational speaking and workshop packages for companies, groups, and events. Whether you’re looking to inspire your team, uplift your community, or simply bring a fresh perspective to your event, I’m here to help.
