Meet Carly Garlow

We recently connected with Carly Garlow and have shared our conversation below.

Carly, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

I grew up with a single mom who had to work two jobs to give me and my sister the things we needed. When I started my photography business I strived to provide a service that every parent can afford to have those beautiful memories and moments captured.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a photographer who focuses on the natural moments, whether it’s family or business. I create a lasting relationship with my clients to make them feel comfortable with me in front of my lens to capture all their favorite moments. I’m currently working to expand my offerings to also create work for brands to showcase everything they offer.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three things that were most impactful for me were mastering the technical aspects of photography, developing my creative vision, and building relationships with others in the industry. For beginners, I’d recommend focusing on learning your camera and editing software, experimenting with different styles to find what feels right for you, and connecting with other photographers or clients early on. The more you practice and network, the faster you’ll grow.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is balancing my creative work with the business side of things, like marketing and managing clients. It can be tough to keep up with everything while still focusing on producing high-quality photos. To overcome this, I’m working on streamlining my processes, like automating some tasks and setting aside dedicated time for both creative work and business management. This helps me stay organized and focused on both sides of the work.
