We were lucky to catch up with Carly Mejia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carly , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Over the last three years, my resilience has come from becoming a medical mama. My daughter was born at 24 weeks, 1 lb 6 oz… A true miracle baby. After spending 138 days in the NICU, we were able to bring her home with a feeding tube. Since then, many twists and turns have come along the way, and I’ve had to stay resilient for her. Sometimes when I think I can’t, I remember I can and I must, for her. I remember how hard she fought to be with us and how resilient she has been since the day she was born.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I launched The Home Hat Bar as a creative outlet, inspired by a dream—literally! One night, I woke up with the idea, told my husband, and decided to run with it. The concept is simple but unique: I bring the Hat Bar experience to your home, making it easy and fun to design your own custom hat. And just like that, The Home Hat Bar was born.
As someone who loves girl’s nights, craft nights, and a great excuse to gather with friends, I envisioned this as a stylish and interactive experience in the comfort of your own space.
Beyond home parties and corporate events, I also do pop-ups in Houston and sell custom hats online. You can shop my pre-made designs on Etsy or DM me on social media to create something completely unique. I’ll help you choose your hat color and the perfect patches from my collection—hundreds of fun, girly options, including “MAMA” hats, rodeo-themed designs, and even nostalgic N’Sync and Backstreet Boys patches.
No matter the occasion, The Home Hat Bar is all about bringing creativity, connection, and a little bit of flair to your style!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I did so much research! I joined hat bar support groups on Facebook, watched YouTube videos of successful event vendors, and spent hours upon hours on Pinterest.
Stay curious and learn from others.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who values unique, hands-on experiences and loves personalized fashion.
This ranges from women who love girl’s nights, brunches, and boutique-style events, those who enjoy crafting, DIY projects, or custom accessories, brides, bridesmaids, or bachelorette parties looking for a fun, stylish activity to
event planners looking for a creative activity for private parties, corporate events, or team-building experiences.
Moms planning birthday parties, baby showers, or holiday get-togethers are also great clients.
The Home Hat Bar is perfect for those who appreciate personalization, creativity, and a fun, social shopping experience!
