We were lucky to catch up with Carma Ferri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carma, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My deepest resilience comes from learning to listen to the wisdom of my body. Throughout my life, I’ve faced challenges that pushed me to my edges—from navigating major life transitions to healing from personal trauma. What I’ve discovered is that resilience isn’t just about pushing through hardship; it’s about developing a relationship with yourself that honors both strength and vulnerability.
The practices that sustain me are grounded in somatic awareness—the ability to tune into my body’s signals rather than just pushing forward with mental determination. When life becomes overwhelming, I return to my breath, to movement, and to the present moment. These simple yet profound practices have carried me through my darkest moments and continue to be my foundation.
Nature has been another wellspring of resilience for me. The Earth medicines I work with have taught me about cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Just as mycelium networks transform dead matter into nutrients that feed new life, our challenging experiences can become the soil for our most profound transformations when we learn to process them fully.
Community also nourishes my resilience. As I’ve guided others through their healing journeys, I’ve been equally supported by witnessing their courage and transformation. There’s a beautiful reciprocity in this work—in sharing our stories and vulnerabilities, we all become stronger.
What I hope to convey through my work is that resilience isn’t something we achieve once and forever. It’s a practice, a relationship with ourselves that deepens over time. When we learn to honor our bodies’ wisdom, connect with natural cycles, and support each other authentically, we discover a wellspring of strength that can carry us through any challenge.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As The Soulful Medicine Woman, I guide people through transformative healing experiences using somatic based coaching and sacred Earth medicines. My work fills a crucial gap in our wellness landscape. While talk therapy can be valuable, I’ve found that true healing requires reconnecting with the wisdom of our bodies.
Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. Beyond our thoughts and words lies a deeper intelligence – sensations, impulses, and energetic patterns that shape how we move through life. The body doesn’t lie. The mind does. It will tell you what it thinks you need to hear to keep you safe, creating stories and rationalizations that maintain the status quo. When we bypass our bodily wisdom, we often find ourselves stuck in the same cycles despite our best intentions. By learning to listen to these physical whispers – the tension, the heaviness, the subtle contractions – we can finally release what’s been unconsciously driving our anxiety, stress responses, and relationship patterns for years. The body really does keep the score, and it’s through working with this somatic intelligence that true and lasting transformation begins.
What makes my work especially exciting right now is the integration of plant medicines like psilocybin mushrooms. We’re at the beginning of a psychedelic renaissance, with Colorado’s Proposition 122 creating legal pathways for this powerful healing modality. These medicines can gently break down rigid thought patterns and open us to wider perspectives – helping us remember who we were before years of conditioning shaped our self-concept.
The most rewarding aspect of my practice is witnessing transformation through microdosing – using tiny, sub-perceptual amounts of psilocybin that don’t cause any psychedelic effects but create subtle, powerful shifts. I’ve seen clients move through depression, anxiety, and creative blocks with these small doses, combined with somatic integration practices. Small doses, big changes.
This growing interest led me to create ROOTED ~ Awaken the Wisdom Within, a six-week live online group program where participants learn to microdose effectively within a supportive community. It’s a somatic-based guided journey that teaches people not just how to work with the medicine, but how to integrate insights for lasting change.
I also offer private 1:1 coaching through my Microdosing Mastery Experience, a two-month one-on-one container for those seeking personalized guidance, as well as my Deep Roots macro dose journeys. This full ceremonial experience creates a sacred container for profound transformation, where a larger dose of medicine opens doorways to deeper insights and healing. With intentional preparation beforehand and integration support afterward, these guided journeys help participants navigate their inner landscapes with safety and purpose. Unlike microdosing’s subtle shifts, these ceremonial experiences often create meaningful breakthroughs in a single session that can catalyze months of growth when properly integrated.
What lights me up is seeing people reclaim parts of themselves they thought were lost – their creativity, emotional balance, and authentic expression. This work isn’t about escaping our challenges but developing a new relationship with ourselves that honors all aspects of our experience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, embodied self-awareness has been transformative. Learning to listen to my body’s signals rather than just my thoughts has guided me through countless decisions and challenges. Our bodies hold wisdom that our analytical minds often miss. For those early in their journey, start with simple daily check-ins. Pause several times a day to notice physical sensations without judgment. Where do you feel tension? Where do you feel ease? This practice builds the foundation for deeper somatic work.
And please, move your body! Movement is medicine. As a Certified Non-Linear Movement Practitioner, I can attest to the healing power of allowing your body to move in ways that aren’t choreographed or planned. Let your body lead rather than your mind. Dance, stretch, shake—whatever feels right. Similarly, breathwork is free medicine available to everyone. Even three deep conscious breaths can shift your nervous system from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest. Sound, too—humming, toning, sighing—helps release stuck energy and emotion. These simple practices—breath, sound, and movement—are accessible entry points to embodiment that require no special equipment or expertise.
Second, cultivating genuine curiosity instead of certainty has opened doors I didn’t know existed. When we approach life’s challenges with curiosity rather than needing immediate answers, we discover solutions beyond our current perspective. If you’re just beginning, practice asking “What else might be true here?” when faced with challenges. This creates space for new insights to emerge.
Third, developing resilience through vulnerability has been essential. True resilience isn’t about being unshakable—it’s about knowing how to move through difficulty while staying connected to yourself and others. Early in your journey, find safe relationships where you can practice authenticity. Start small by sharing something slightly uncomfortable, and notice how connecting through vulnerability actually builds strength.
The common thread through all three is practice. These aren’t qualities we acquire once and forever, but muscles we strengthen through consistent attention. The beautiful thing is that you can begin right where you are, with what you have, in this moment.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Ah! Collaboration is my word for 2025: I’m actively seeking to connect with like-minded practitioners and wellness professionals who recognize the power of integrative approaches to healing.
I’m particularly interested in collaborating with:
Healthcare practitioners, naturopaths, and physicians interested in complementary approaches to mental health and wellness. As the psychedelic landscape evolves, having referral relationships with providers who understand when clients might benefit from somatic and plant medicine work creates a more comprehensive care network.
Wellness centers and holistic practitioners who want to expand their offerings through educational workshops or referral partnerships. I offer online and in-person non-linear movement and breathwork classes, introduction to microdosing protocols, and other integrative approaches to healing that can complement existing modalities.
Retreat centers and facilitators looking to incorporate somatic components into their programs. The combination of bodywork, movement, and plant medicine creates powerful containers for transformation.
Coaches and therapists seeking referral relationships for clients who might benefit from somatic or plant medicine approaches when traditional methods have reached their limits.
If you’re interested in exploring how we might collaborate, I welcome the conversation. You can reach me directly at Carma@TheSoulfulMedicineWoman.com or visit www.TheSoulfulMedicineWoman.com to learn more about my work.
I believe that by weaving together our diverse modalities and perspectives, we can create more comprehensive pathways for healing than any of us could offer alone.
