We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carmen Boone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carmen below.
Hi Carmen, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I believe taking care of yourself mentally, physically and spiritually is so crucial. I grew up with my father being very active and prioritizing his health. I remember him telling us “take care of your body, it’s the only one you will ever have!” I enjoy working out whether that be by walking, dancing or doing weight training. I love all of it and I feel so much better when I am active. Spiritually, I enjoy reading the Bible every day as well as praying.
Psalm 119 tells us “the word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” I have to fix my eyes upon Him. For my mental health, I need to be active physically and spiritually. Staying active and praying continually helps me to stay positive and be effective in my work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Nashville native, calligrapher and engraver. I also teach calligraphy classes at local businesses. Calligraphy is an art and takes years of practice and dedication. It is a skill that I have enjoyed developing. I am so blessed to be a part of a wonderful supportive community with other talented artists! I offer a variety of services, I can do private and corporate events, brand activations and weddings/parties! Having a live artist at an event elevates the client experience and makes the event more unique and memorable!
I have worked with luxury brands such as Kendra Scott, Dior and Dolce & Gabanna.
I absolutely love meeting new people and love creating works of art together!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the most important qualities a calligrapher should have are passion, patience and determination.
You need Passion because without it, your work will lack significance. You have to learn about the art and have the desire.
You need patience because you are intentionally developing a new skill and that takes time. Give yourself grace.
You need determination because developing a new skill is not easy and it takes a lot of practice. Practice makes progress!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with other businesses like event planners, florists, wedding planners, photographers, perfume manufacturers and wineries. I think a photo shoot showcasing our work would be amazing! I’d also love to partner with luxury brands to engrave on their products!
