We recently connected with Carolina Jimenez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolina, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My father instilled in me a strong work ethic; he led by example and often worked from early in the morning until late at night, six days a week. My father taught me to do everything to the best of my abilities while serving others. My father insisted that I do not work while attending school; he said my “job” was to make good grades and “go to school” so I could have “a better life.” His diligence, generosity, and compassion inspired me to obtain a bachelor’s degree by the time I was 20 years old, a master’s degree by the time I was 22, and a Ph.D. later on.
My husband is my current inspiration with his diligence and non-stop passion for work and projects; he is a morning bird, who has to do things even on vacation! His non-stop work ethic keeps me motivated.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) psychologist specializing in providing psychological evaluations (online and in person) for immigration cases. I have worked with immigrants since 1998, as a psychotherapist since 2000, and in various settings (including substance abuse rehabilitation facilities, university counseling centers, school districts, non-profit organizations, and private practice). I have completed over 980 immigration evaluations and continue to take trainings to enhance the quality of my services.
One of special things about my practice is that it addresses one of the biggest challenges facing immigrants: fraud committed by people misrepresenting themselves as psychologists. I’m a good person to combat this problem since I am a licensed psychologist and my education, training, experience, and research provided me with insight regarding the unique factors contributing to wellbeing and mental health concerns among historically underserved and immigrant populations and their immediate community. I was also named one of Houston’s top five psychologists in 2020, the winner of the Houston Awards in the category of psychologists in 2022, and one of Houston’s top three psychologists in 2023 and 2024.
My newest project was starting my YouTube channel where I share information about mental health, immigration, education, entrepreneurship, relationships, violence prevention, ethics and professionalism in the field of psychology; readers can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/@immigrationpsychologist
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My business values are to encourage, empower, and educate the community; the qualities that have helped me achieve my goals and have helped those around me are mutual support and encouragement, becoming comfortable with my strengths and helping others fulfill theirs, and continuing to learn as much as possible. I believe education and knowledge are the keys to continue to grow; they help me develop as a person and as a professional and they prepare me to better serve others.
Additionally, my expertise in immigration evaluations allows me to meet a high demand for a service that benefits immigrants and the community at large by combating misconceptions (for example, in hardship waiver cases) and assisting survivors of crimes (for instance in VAWA, U visa, and T visa cases).
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking to collaborate with anyone interested in mutually supportive business and personal relationships; if you are a business owner follow me on social media (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) you can find me as Dr. Carolina Jimenez, Jimenez Counseling, or Immigration Psychologist; I will follow you back and help you promote your posts, products, and services.
I am particularly interested in connecting and collaborating with immigration attorneys who seek psychological evaluations for their clients’ immigration cases. I work with VAWA, hardship waiver, U visa, T visa, cancellation of removal, and asylum cases; I provide services online and in person, in English and Spanish, for adults residing in Texas. Clients and their attorneys can contact me directly at 281-709-2933 or via email at [email protected]
