We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carolina Lopez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carolina , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Necessity is the mother of invention! That was my case. I wanted to have and give my family what they couldn’t for many reasons, so I decided to go for my dreams, working not just hard but also smart, taking great care with each career decision, knowing that one door always connects you to another side and new opportunities.
Many people often forget the “ethic” part of work ethic. Like many principles, I always try to apply what I would like to receive from others.
The only person we will spend the rest of our lives with is ourselves; the rest are simply visitors. So we should build a real and authentic relationship within ourselves that lets us live in a peaceful mind, and that shouldn’t be negotiable no matter the offer. Nothing can pay for a peaceful mind and heart.
And yes, we might take a little extra time to reach our destination, but we will have gained the right mindset to enjoy the process. When you have talent that speaks for itself and passion, patience, and discipline that follows it, you become simply unstoppable!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
From a very young age, I felt like an actress, taking every space in the house as a stage and visitors as my audience; there wasn’t any doubt that acting and art were how I wanted to enjoy and experience life.
My childhood was filled with music and a playful, loving environment. My father’s guitar playing and singing, my brother’s guitar lessons, and my singing and dancing, all supported and pampered by my mother, created a warm and nurturing atmosphere that fueled my love for the arts. In high school, I acted in my first movie and theater production, and I loved it. At the age of 19, I bravely left my hometown of Medellin for the bustling capital of Bogota with just $200 in my pocket and a burning desire for superstardom.
Despite facing countless obstacles, through hard work, strong values and determination, I was on National TV a year later and on the path to access more significant projects and roles. Little by little, I began to establish myself as a versatile actress in film and television, taking on diverse roles ranging from drama to action to comedy. One of the top Colombian magazines, Vea, named me the “Queen of Accents” and selected me as one of the three sexiest women in Colombia.
I feel honored and happy to have worked on successful primetime productions like “La Vendedora de Rosas” and “La Mama del 10,” viewed in over 37 countries. After many years and over 25 projects, I have earned five nominations for best actress in the top Colombian film and TV awards organizations, Premios India Catalina and TV y Novelas. My most recent movie, “El actor, el director y la guionista,” was Pre-nominated by the 2024 edition of the Platino Ibero-Americano Film and Audiovisual Awards for Best Fiction Comedy Film.
I’m now based in Los Angeles, focusing on expanding my career in Hollywood.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As an artist, it’s crucial to develop resilience, discipline, and patience. You’ll encounter countless ‘no’s’ in your career, but don’t let them discourage you. Instead, anticipate the life-changing ‘yes’ that could be just around the corner.
You need discipline to be always ready to jump on the opportunities that come your way while developing a deep and honest connection with yourself. This will allow you to be the owner of your own world.
And be prepared – the harder your dream, the more attacks you will have from those who lack the bravery and resilience to pursue what they want while trying to destroy others’ dreams.
Get to know yourself as much and as deeply as you can. Then you have your power, so no one else will have it over you!
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If you’re facing challenges, that means you are out of your comfort zone, and that’s the place where we can grow and bring out the best in ourselves.
I left my country at the peak of my career because I feel life is too long to continuously live in the same way and too short to never try different things and strategies. I’m facing many challenges in my career, with the artistic goal of reaching out on a Hollywood level.
With English as a second language and a different way of doing things, I connect with new people and teams to build what I want next in my career, and even though it hasn’t been easy, it has been enjoyable. I don’t regret any of the choices I have made to experience the adventure of life on my terms.
