Meet Caroline Carleton

We were lucky to catch up with Caroline Carleton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Caroline, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose through my own wedding. My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and watching his illness unfold gave me a profound understanding of how important it is to preserve memories — not just the posed portraits, but the fleeting, unscripted moments that can never be recreated. After my wedding, I realized how much I longed to relive those in-between moments, and that help create Carleton Socials.

From the very beginning, my purpose has been clear: to capture weddings with intention, honesty, and care so couples can relive their day exactly as it felt. I focus on the raw, emotional, behind-the-scenes details — the laughter between friends, the quiet glances, the chaos of getting ready — and my elevated edits bring depth and storytelling to those memories. What sets my work apart is the belief that a wedding day is not just a day, but a collection of connections. I honor those connections between couples, their loved ones, and their vendor teams, blending seamlessly so my work complements rather than competes. Even as wedding content creation has grown and evolved, the heart of Carleton Socials has never wavered: preserving authentic memories with purpose, so couples and their families can hold onto them for years to come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Carleton Socials is a wedding content creation brand built on the belief that your wedding deserves to be remembered exactly as it felt. Using iPhone and camcorder footage, I capture the raw, real, and emotional in-between moments of a wedding day — there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes than the formalities on a wedding day — it truly is the best day for so many reasons.

What makes this work so exciting to me is the connection. My role is to document the story. My own wedding experience, where I realized the profound importance of preserving real memories after my father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, inspired me to start Carleton Socials. That personal connection is why I approach every event with care and so much intention.

I also value the collaborative nature of this work. My services are designed to complement, not compete with, a couple’s photography and videography team, ensuring a seamless, elevated experience that prioritizes storytelling from every angle.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue expanding my offerings for couples who want intentional, story-driven content. At its core, Carleton Socials is about connection — honoring the relationships that make a wedding meaningful and preserving them in a way that feels timeless, authentic, and true.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say three qualities have been the most impactful in shaping my journey (its hard to voice these qulaities for me — imposter syndrome is real when you own your own business) :

Discipline & Work Ethic – In my first year, I said yes to everything. I offered my services for almost free, reached out to anyone who would take a chance on me, posted 2–6 TikToks a day, and even took a job at a bridal boutique after my 9–5 so I could immerse myself in the industry. It wasn’t glamorous, but that discipline and willingness to hustle gave me the foundation I needed.

Storytelling Mindset – For me, it’s never about staging a wedding to look like something it wasn’t — it’s about noticing and honoring the story that’s already unfolding.

Relationship Building – My work isn’t just about capturing a wedding; it’s about being invited into one of the most important days of people’s lives. Building trust with couples, and collaborating seamlessly with planners, photographers, and vendors, has been just as important as the creative side of things.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be:

Say yes to opportunities — even small ones — because each experience teaches you something new. I made a lot of mistakes but they taught me so much.

Invest in your perspective as much as your tools. Anyone can pick up a camera or phone, but your eye, your voice, and your ability to connect will set you apart.

Don’t be afraid to evolve. The industry is constantly changing, and the best way to grow is to stay curious and open to new ways of doing things.

At the end of the day, success comes from being both intentional and flexible: holding a clear vision for your work, but staying open to the unexpected.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal clients are couples who feel comfortable enough to be fully themselves — the ones who let their guard down and allow themselves to truly be seen. What inspires me most are those genuine, unscripted moments: a laugh that isn’t posed, a tear that comes unexpectedly, the way two people look at each other when no one else is watching.

These couples value authenticity over perfection. They aren’t worried about curating every moment for the camera, but instead want to remember how their day felt. When people trust me enough to step into their celebration and capture it as it unfolds, that is my favorite part. Those raw, real connections are what fuel me creatively, and those are the clients I’m most excited to work with.
