We were lucky to catch up with Caroline Phillips recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Caroline, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. They always showed me that if I want something, I have to work for it. There is no easy road or shortcut. Whether it was through their own careers or the support they have given me, they made it clear that effort and perseverance matter most. That mindset stuck with me. It’s why I approach every opportunity with commitment and why I push myself to meet challenges head-on. I have also had to juggle the balance of school and work and that taught me how to stay focused and push through even when things get difficult.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We have baked together ever since I was a child, and I have learned everything from my mom. It made sense to turn our love of baking into a company. It is something we enjoy doing together. We never intended for our hobby to become a business. I attend school full-time, while my mom has a full-time job. Originally, when I was away at college, my mom took a class and started giving me cookies. She showed me how to decorate the cookies when I returned home in 2020, and the rest is history!
We specialize in custom-decorated sugar cookies for any occasion, turning your sweetest visions into beautifully crafted treats. Whether it’s a small celebration or a grand event, we love bringing your ideas to life and creating cookies that are as memorable as the moments they celebrate.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think my biggest areas was my willingness to learn, communication, and progressing. As an owner, you wear many hats. I had to learn things on the fly—marketing, sales, finance, product development. Being resourceful and eager to learn helped me stay ahead and make smarter decisions. Communication with customers, partners, or a team is essential. Relationships drive growth, opportunity, and longevity as well as building trust.
My advice? Focus on progress over perfection. The best entrepreneurs aren’t those who have all the answers—they’re the ones willing to learn, pivot, and grow every step of the way.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been finding balance. Growth happens when you stretch yourself—but it’s also about learning when to slow down and set boundaries. That balance has helped me grow not just as a business owner, but as a person.
