Meet Caroline Taicher

We were lucky to catch up with Caroline Taicher recently and have shared our conversation below.

Caroline , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?

I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. My grandmother was a designer, and my grandfather put himself through podiatry school. Together they started a women’s shoe company with comfortable, while beautiful, designs in their garage. Over time, with hard work, it grew to become a huge success, ending up on the New York Stock Exchange! “Other family members were also part of the effort. I can remember being about four years old and hearing family members having lively discussions about the best way to achieve a particular goal. My family, being very strongly opinionated people, I quickly began to realize that good communication was vital to moving a company or any kind of group effort forward.

I studied communications at USC and considered broadcast journalism as a career, so I took courses on how to communicate clearly, concisely, and with purpose. I learned how to engage the audience and get to the point! Communication is an integral part of business and life, so I bring what I’ve learned everywhere I go. I applied it to the retail store I opened in Manhattan Beach, CA. Buying, merchandising, and accounting were a big part of the job, but communication was always what I excelled in. Greeting clients and making them feel at home was a huge part of making it in retail. People can go anywhere to buy clothes~ they want style, and they want to feel good!

I moved on from having a clothing store and branched out into manufacturing internationally. I started a women’s clothing line called Beau & Eros. It did very well, and we sold to department stores such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue. We were featured magazines such as InStyle, Mademoiselle, and Cosmopolitan. I had to be able to communicate with publicists, celebrities, and buyers, but the most challenging communications were with manufacturers! Some of them were overseas, some had language barriers, and some had larger orders in front of ours…. If you don’t communicate clearly in the garment industry, you end up with 1000 shirts with one arm and 500 three legged pants (true story;-)). So, I learned quickly to watch what and how you say things!

There is a Socrates quote that I like to live life by:
“Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?”
When in doubt, I circle back to this idea to communicate effectively as well as graciously.

I have been in real estate for about 5 years now, It has definitely been a learning experience and getting better every day! There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that I think have been impactful on my journey would be Resilience, Positive Energy and Communication.

I think I can speak to developing resilience by the Japanese proverb~ “Fall down seven times, get up eight”! One of my favorite ways to remember that everyone has challenges in life, it’s just how you choose to deal with them that makes you resilient!

Positive energy comes from within. No matter what the weather is outside, know that you are on the right path. Do right, work hard and you are bound for success!

Communication: I think communication breaks down to being honest and being yourself. I believe these things will lead you to your tribe!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

Someone who is dedicated to their search! A business owner or landlord that wishes to achieve new heights!
