We recently connected with Carona Davis-diop and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carona, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
This is where self care, self love and self esteem all connect. If you don’t have this within yourself and you are looking for it through outside influences then be ready to fail. It’s that simple. I had to realize my value and realize that I’m a pretty cool individual! Lol! Even after 3 short films, 3 books and hosting 2 podcasts and a digital magazine. I felt like it wasn’t enough. I needed to really take a step back and review everything that I’d accomplished In the past decade. Only when I did that did I genuinely come to the realization that I was doing a fantastic job. I feel like I’ve been put here to help/assist others and I take that very seriously so, if I am down and feeling imposter syndrome after everything I’ve done how can I then help someone else? It doesn’t work that way.
Appreciate your hard work and effort even if it’s just writing a page to your debut book or taking that first class.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am presently the CEO of Diop Productions LLC where I manage a studio, multiple podcasts, video editing and film production departments. My main focus right now is releasing a feature film that I wrote, produced and co-directed by the name of The Opening, a supernatural horror film and also a novel.
There will definately be more book releases by me and new artists that are being represented by Diop Productions as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities of knowledge that still are the most impactful in my journey is persistence, patience and most important, thickening my skin. In the entertainment industry you must have thick skin because there is nothing but harsh criticism and judgement in this business and if you are not straight with who you are and your self worth as a person and as an artist then you need to rethink your career choice. I’ve learned this the hard way multiple times and I’m glad that I did. You have to love what you do and that goes for anything you put your energy into. People have to understand that everything starts on their doorstep. Prep yourself to fight for what you want in your life and business. Gain that fighter’s mindset. I actually push myself out of my comfort zones and now… I’m less afraid to extend my talents.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
This question right here.. Wow! I am actually just coming out of a real mental and emotional sore spot in my life so, this question really resinates. I was at one point thinking about not continuing with my business. After going over in my mind everything I had been through while building DP I thought to myself “You must be out of your mind to even consider this!” I took a much needed break, stepped back and reviewed everything I had accomplished with building my business and myself. Only then did I realize I had done a lot . I had to learn how stop beating myself up and JUST BE the artist that I am, unapologetically..
