We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carrie Giordano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carrie below.
Hi Carrie , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism definitely comes from my dad. From a very young age, he taught me to always look on the bright side and see good in any situation. As I’ve gotten older he has taught me to focus on gratitude in my life. These lessons have helped me so much when I’m faced with adversity.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, my love of sports and photography began from a young age. Today, I’m fortunate to call Sherman Oaks, California, home, where I work as the team photographer for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Rams in addition to freelance work.
Capturing the raw emotions of athletes—from their ecstatic victories to the heartbreaks of defeat—fuels my passion. Each click of the shutter presents a new challenge to find fresh angles and perspectives, allowing me to tell powerful stories through my images. I strive to evoke feelings and transport viewers right into the heart of the action, celebrating the spirit of the game.
When I’m not photographing sports, you can usually find me with my husband and three children. We love exploring the great outdoors and traveling. Travel opens my eyes to new cultures and breathtaking landscapes, enriching my photography portfolio with nature’s beauty. I’m currently learning French with my 9 year old daughter.
I feel incredibly blessed to combine my love for sports and photography. Each day presents new opportunities to share stories, create memories, and grow. As I look to the future, I am excited about the adventures and inspirations that lie ahead in this journey of life.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are hard work, humility, and networking. When I started, I would say yes to every job I could. I shot countless games without pay to build my portfolio and improve my work. There were many jobs I didn’t want to do but believed it would get me closer to where I wanted to be. Along the way, I took advice from many incredible photographers I had the privilege to shoot alongside.
For any photographers trying to get into professional sports, I advise to work their way up at whatever level they can gain access. My first photography job was shooting little league!
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I face is my own self-criticism. I believe this is very common for creative people. While I always am striving to improve and learn new things, I can also be incredibly critical of my own work.
