We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carrin Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrin, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Developing confidence and self-esteem has been a cornerstone of my journey, both personally and as the CEO of Life House Design and Construction. This evolution can be traced back to the foundational experiences within the construction industry, often times we go into projects where attention to detail can make or break a project worth more that $150,000. The confidence that we did it, and did it right is a reflection of my life journey from the streets of south east san diego, to the military, and back to south east san diego.
The inception of Life House Design and Construction was more than just the establishment of a company; it was the embodiment of my belief in the transformative power of real estate. Witnessing the impact our projects had on individuals and families—providing them not just with houses, but with homes and opportunities for growth—fueled my confidence in the path we had chosen. The feedback from those we’ve helped and the tangible results of our work reinforced my self-esteem and solidified my commitment to our mission.
Moreover, engaging with the community and sharing insights on real estate investment and the specialty of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) have been instrumental in developing my public speaking skills and confidence in my expertise. Each presentation, consultation, and project becomes a stepping stone to greater confidence, not only in my ability to lead but also in our company’s vision to empower through design and construction.
In essence, the growth of my confidence and self-esteem is intertwined with Life House Design and Construction’s journey. Every challenge overcome, every successful project, and every client’s satisfaction have been affirmations of our direction and purpose, encouraging me to strive for excellence and lead with conviction.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At the heart of my professional journey is a passion for making meaningful impacts through my work, whether it’s in the realm of business, nonprofit, or the arts. Our brand embodies a commitment to excellence, innovation, and the power of storytelling to connect and inspire. We include emlements of our faith, our upbringing and fashion into our brand to expand on our core values, and we hope that our heart is felt in all our projects we encounter.
We are dedicated to not just achieving goals but creating experiences that resonate deeply with our audience, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
What sets my work apart is the emphasis on authenticity and purpose-driven initiatives. Whether we’re launching a new product, organizing an event, or expanding our reach, there’s always a deeper meaning behind our actions. This commitment to purpose is what I believe makes our brand truly special.
Currently, we’re focused on expanding our impact through various channels, including social media outreach, SEO, content marketing, and community engagement. These strategies are not just about promoting our brand but are avenues to contribute positively to our community and the industry at large.
We have several exciting developments on the horizon, including the launch of a new product line that aims to address specific needs within our community, as well as the expansion of our services to new markets. These steps forward are driven by our desire to meet and exceed the expectations of those we serve, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and quality.
I invite everyone to stay connected with us as we embark on these new ventures. Our journey is one of continuous learning, growing, and striving to make a difference in every endeavor we undertake.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three key elements stand out as pivotal to success: analytical thinking, resilience, and effective communication. These skills and qualities have been instrumental in navigating challenges and leveraging opportunities.
Analytical Thinking: Practice breaking down complex issues into manageable parts and explore different solutions.
Resilience: Embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and growth. Seek feedback and use it constructively.
Effective Communication: The ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively is crucial in all aspects of life. Whether it’s written or verbal communication, being able to convey your thoughts and listen actively to others is key. To improve communication skills, practice active listening, engage in public speaking opportunities, and seek constructive feedback on your communication style.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to actively seek opportunities to develop these skills. Volunteer for projects that push you out of your comfort zone, find mentors who can provide guidance and feedback, and never stop learning. Remember, personal and professional growth is a continuous process, and investing in these areas will pay dividends throughout your career.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents loved me regardless of my ups and downs their love and dedication was steadfast. I remember my Dad working 3 jobs in San Diego to make ends meet and He would still come outside and play basketball with us or play video games with us. I take that kind of drive into all I do.
My Mom was a teacher for 30 years, she stayed busy singing in church, working, going to college, but always made time for me, she would take me to her singing events and when she would feed the homeless downtown.
I do the things my parents did for me, not out of obligation, but because of love, I was loved so I want to give love.
