We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cary a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cary, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
This is something that has taken me almost my entire life to overcome. I think as women we are constantly comparing ourselves to someone else. When I entered the adult industry production world almost 6 years ago I still struggled with not knowing how to show myself enough self-love. Now, that I’m in my late thirties and have been holding a camera in the adult industry I have learned that everyone is different and we all add our values to the world. There is not one person out here worth comparing yourself to because every single person you come across has their own stories and has had their struggles. I’ve learned to love who I am, what I have been through, and how I have overcome these struggles. I know we don’t need to look like each other we just need to learn to support each other. My journey has allowed me to truly and genuinely empower every woman I come across.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the proud owner of an adult production company: Salacious Perceptions. I have been producing adult content (photography & videography) beginning in 2018. In 2021, I became Lyric Sky’s main cinematographer, and in 2022 we founded Erotic Sky Magazine together. Erotic Sky Magazine is a highly suggestive, visually stunning, (R) Rated, digital and print publication featuring the most alluring women in the adult industry and we are women-owned & operated. I always tell people the only thing we don’t do to create Erotic Sky Magazine is physically print it ourselves. I love being able to uplift the women we work with and showcase them as classy and sexy at the same time! Volume 5 was released in November 2023 and Volume 6 will be released in March 2024. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I played sports my entire life – I think learning to work with a team and be a team player has made my journey through life so much easier. I gained knowledge on working with a team, partner, and solo. This has effectively and successfully allowed me complete almost anything that has been thrown in front of me. I’ve always been able to be sympathetic and empathetic towards the next person which has allowed me to also be adaptable in any situation. Before, I dove into the adult industry I was in the dental field for over 10 years. Through those years, I learned how to make people feel completely comfortable, and that in turn allowed people to trust me and I’ve brought all of these qualities with me as I continue on my journey.
