We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caryssa Sornia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caryssa below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Caryssa with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic was shaped at a very young age, primarily by watching my mom. She ran two small businesses to support our large family, often making the tough choice to work instead of spending days at home with all of us kids. Though it was hard for her, it left a lasting impression on me and shaped who I am today. I believe I inherited her drive to succeed and accomplish tasks. What drives me every day is my list of to-dos, but more importantly, it’s the ability to see the bigger picture and the ability to break it down into small steppingstones on the way to completing the larger task—the sacrifices that come with choosing work over personal time. I understand the sacrifices that come with choosing work over personal time, and that perspective keeps my work ethic strong. Finding the right balance between work and life is what helps me stay focused and motivated.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a proud wife, dog mom, solo esthetician and owner of Truth & Skin by Caryssa. My foundation is built on two key pillars: education and confidence. Whether I’m educating my clients about their skin and guiding them toward long-term results, providing teeth whitening and waxing treatments, or teaching others about the esthetics industry I’m so passionate about, my mission remains the same—to empower others through knowledge and self-care.
This love for education, combined with my desire to see the esthetics community grow stronger through collaboration, led to the creation of ECHB and its events. With a background in management, team building, and communication, I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact such events can have on a community, often before they even realize it. It’s been a blessing to witness the connections that have come to life through these initiatives.
At the heart of everything I do is my faith in God. His guidance has allowed me to bring people together, creating spaces where education, support, and collaboration can thrive. In the coming year, I look forward to expanding the ECHB platform with even more community events, as well as branching out to offer estheticians a space to connect and grow. My private Facebook group, Skincare Lounge, is a dedicated space for estheticians to ask questions, share insights, and network with others in the industry (feel free to join!).
I’m also thrilled to announce the launch of my personal website for Truth & Skin—a platform designed to do more than just book appointments or make purchases. It will serve as an educational hub, featuring resources like dietary tips for managing skin conditions, online courses in both Spanish and English, in-person mentorship options, and more. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals to feel confident in their skin and knowledgeable about the industry I love.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are three key qualities that have been crucial to my journey –
Reverse Planning: This is a game changer for achieving big goals. Start by defining your end goal and the date you want to achieve it. Then, work backward to figure out what needs to happen each week to get there. By breaking down the process into manageable steps, it becomes much easier to stay on track and focused.
Networking & Collaboration: No one can succeed alone. Building a strong network and collaborating with others who share your vision is essential. There will always be challenges but having a support system you can lean on—especially during long workdays or tough times—makes all the difference.
Commitment to the Goal: Whatever your goal is—whether it’s starting a business, creating an event, or building a clientele—true success requires full commitment. There will be setbacks and obstacles, but staying dedicated to your goal, being open to alternative paths, and trusting in God’s guidance when you feel lost will keep you moving forward.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When you’re feeling overwhelmed, here’s my personal and professional advice:
Anxiety and fear are natural when you’re taking on a big task, especially when it feels like no one has done it before, or when doubts creep in from others—or even from within. But remember, you can do anything. Look at me—I’ve been a licensed esthetician for just three years, and I’ve already built collaborations with brands and people I once only dreamed of working with. It may not always look like you imagined, but with the right mindset and qualities, your success will become a reality.
Here’s how to handle feeling overwhelmed:
Take breaks. Don’t spend 12 hours straight working on something. Take 5, 10, or even 30 minutes to step away. Go outside, breathe, clear your mind. The world will still be there when you get back (Trust me!).
Face your fears. What’s causing your anxiety? Financial instability? Job insecurity? Facing those fears head-on will help you take control. Make a plan, take action, and trust that God is with you every step of the way. If you need extra support, identify your strengths and know that there’s always a place for you in the world if you’re willing to work for it.
Focus on balance. Life is short, so don’t forget to make time for what matters outside of work. Set goals for yourself, journal, connect with people you enjoy being around. Write down your dreams and take consistent action towards them.
The journey will have ups and downs, but if you stay committed, take breaks when you need them, and face your fears, you will build a path toward the success you want.
