Meet Cassidy Bowman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cassidy Bowman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Cassidy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is rooted in my family’s background; my parents and all three siblings own and manage businesses and investment properties. From a young age, I was taught the value of hard work and continuous learning. Interestingly, I am the only creative one in my family, which meant that when I founded BoCo Designs, I encountered a steep learning curve. Every day, I strive to enhance my skills and tackle the challenges of running a business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My company, BoCo Designs, focuses on creating custom signage and stationery. We create custom, unique, timeless, designs that coordinate all elements of your event, ensuring that fonts, colors, and styles complement each other for a breathtaking effect. I collaborate closely with my clients, listening to their stories to incorporate a piece of their love journey into the designs. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have intimate narratives, as it allows me to create a story into their signage and stationery. Unlike standard online retail, every item we produce is personalized for your special day, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind look. The greatest feeling occurs at the end of a long day of event setup, once all the vendors have finished their work and the space is beautifully transformed. Seeing the couple enter their dream setting is truly one of the most rewarding experiences.

I started this company after identifying a need during my own wedding planning, and for me, it’s more than a job; it’s a passion. In addition to our custom offerings, we also have a selection of ready-to-purchase products on our website for those last-minute shoppers. We’ve recently introduced a rental collection as well, allowing us to pair beautiful signage with accessories and lighting. We even offer larger rental items like walls, mirrors, and shelves, providing everything needed to enhance our signage designs and create a memorable experience for your guests.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My journey to discovering my true passion has been a long one, filled with trial and error. I have always had a love for arts and crafts; as a child, I had an entire art room dedicated to my supplies, giving me the freedom to create, design, and explore. However, as I grew older, I transitioned from traditional mediums to digital ones, and graphic design quickly became one of my obsessions, with not enough classes available to satisfy my thirst for knowledge. I became the editor of my high school yearbook, which allowed me to significantly enhance my skills in Adobe Suite. While I explored graphic design colleges, none felt like the right fit, so I opted for a state school. It was during my second semester that I discovered a passion for Environmental Science and decided to declare it as my degree. After realizing how beautifully my interests in graphic design and urban planning could intertwine, I dove into classes focused on cartography and learned systems like ArcGIS and AutoCAD, rapidly expanding my computer design knowledge. This led me to pursue a higher education in Landscape Architecture, where I found myself rendering site plans and designing wayfinding and signage for communities, cities, and parks. It seemed like my dream career, but ultimately, I wasn’t happy and struggled to find my true passion within it.

So from this, I think these are my three takeaways..
1. Always stay true to your gut—recognize your passions and find a way to turn them into a career.
2. My knowledge of creating construction documents has been invaluable; it allows me to communicate effectively with contractors and ensures my designs are feasible from the start, helping me to think things through systematically.
3. Believe in yourself!! Oh my gosh believe in your self!! When I told my parents I was starting a business with no prior business experience, they were stunned. However, since launching my company, I’ve learned to manage finances, market, submit taxes, manage social media, handle payroll, and so much more. It’s a long list, but with dedication and continuous learning, like utilizing resources on YouTube, anything is possible!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My husband, Cody, has been my unwavering support since day one; I truly could not have launched this business without him. He assists me with on-site setups, helps build new structures, and provides emotional support during challenging times. I also owe a great deal to my parents, Brenda and Larry. My dad played a crucial role in helping me construct my workshop, while my mom guided me through the complexities of taxes and bookkeeping, and continues to help me source new ideas and supplies. Together, all three of them consistently strive to make my business better.

In the industry, Becca Gould, a Vail wedding planner, hired me for a few weddings when I was seriously considering quitting; she doesn’t realize it, but her support became a crucial turning point for my business. And now, I network on social media and at events to continue growing,
