We were lucky to catch up with Cassidy Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cassidy, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Being bipolar is an everyday struggle. From waking up to going to bed. Food is my medicine, i often struggle with simple tasks but resilience gets me through the day. I overcome these challenges everyday by choosing happiness. My biggest supporter is God, and my inner self. I never wanna restrict or limit myself due to whats going on in my mind. I choose life, and a functional one.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Well im a Nola native which contributes to my flavor profiles. I am a classically trained Pastry chef but im currently an Executive Chef. I love food in every form. Food tells a story and i love telling mine. I grew up cooking with my grandma and started working at a bakery at 14. I knew food was for me at a young and i wanted to be the best. I went to culinary school at the international culinary center in New York. New york brought out the fighter in me and allowed me to see i was made for this life. I feel most excited when im cooking for my family. My business revolves around family. Bumble bees pastrys started in 2019 with custom nola king cakes. King cakes are cakes celebrated in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. My business is currently on hold as i save and prepare to buy another home. Real Estate is another lane id like to venture in one day.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Faith, Grit, and Honesty are three words i live by. They have held me through this though career and ruthless world. If id give any advice it would be trust the process. It works! Its easier said than done, but as i look back at my life even in the darkest time im where im supposed to be and i went through the process. It wasnt pretty but with grit i just kept going. And never let someone put their fears on you, life is full of oppuritunites if one doesnt serve you go to the next.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Gosh! what didnt they do!? Drove me to work, paid for all my experiments, and on top of it they loved me through it all.
