We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cassidy Mister. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cassidy below.
Cassidy, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Mental health challenges have been a challenge for me ever since I was a young child. Dealing with anxiety, depression and complex post traumatic stress disorder shaped my days. Some activities felt too hard to do at times but my dreams were bigger. I wanted to overcome my mental health conditions in order to do what I knew I was capable of. Putting social anxiety behind and being able to creatively thrive while working with people. There were many times where I convinced myself I wasn’t worthy and my panic attacks would take over when I wasn’t “performing”.
I struggled for years but knew the more I exposed myself to what I wanted to do, I would eventually overcome it. Facing what made me anxious, which was mostly the desire of the approval of others and wanting to do a phenomenal job for my clients. I had constant worry if I wasn’t chosen to photograph someone I knew or if a past client didn’t return. Along with worrying if I would make it in a non-traditional job. I had so much anxiety and concern that I would fail my clients by not doing an incredible job or letting my anxiety get in the way of my performance for them.
Through much inner work, seeing a therapist and the addition of an SSRI, I began to grow and blossom through my struggles. With exposure to what made me the most anxious, putting system in place and getting more comfortable with myself as an artist and a photographer, I found a stable mindset to have. Having a strong support system which starts with your own inner mind shapes everything. I have found myself incredibly passionate about sharing mental health struggles as an entrepreneur, in hopes that this lets anyone else who is struggling that there is stable ground available. That no one is alone, your dream is worth perusing and your mental health struggles can positively shape you.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a portrait photographer whom focuses on capturing heirloom quality images while creating a fun experience that creates family’s memories while capturing the soul behind the smile! It is so exciting to me to see connections of all kinds ranging from couples, families and even small businesses with their craft!
Getting to preserve the image of someone for future generations is extremely special to me. Knowing these images and moments can be shared with children looking for insight in a family member in the future is such a interesting thought.
In addition, being a graphic designer who mostly works with building logos, websites and a social media presence for other small businesses, I find offering the entire spectrum of services with photography used to amplify their website or social media presence makes me incredibly filled with joy. Having a cohesive brand can make a small business thrive. I love working with other businsses! My books are always open for full service brand creation.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being a quick learner who has computer and graphic design knowledge are some of the top skills to have when owning your own business in this digital age. Along with having empathy and a desire to serve others will be incredibly impactful on an entrepreneur journey. My biggest line of advice is to think of others first, look outside of yourself and think about how your services could better their life. In terms of computer knowledge or graphic design skills, there are tons of courses out there from creatives who will give you the skillset you need to be able to tweak your own promotional materials. Being open to constantly improving and shifting your vibe to what feels most aligned to who you are and what you want to provide, is how your business will always be successful.

How would you describe your ideal client?
An ideal client would be someone who trusts in my artistic skills fully while also being comfortable enough to speak up with constructive criticism if they have a specific vision. An ideal client would be great at communicating, being reliable and honoring similar characteristics to me. Such as timeless imagery that is also fun and life filled along with clean functional design.
