We recently connected with Cassie French and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Cassie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from my mom. She was a single mother since I was the age of 6 years old. She was in a sales position that made her travel a lot for work. While she was traveling, I spent a lot of time being bounced around with different family members and went to a different school every single year. I saw how her hard work and time away from me was a sacrifice we both had to make because she continually moved us into nicer and nicer homes (this was in Kansas). She finally bought a big home on “the hill” which was a big deal back then. Once she achieved a lot of her goals, my step dad came in the picture and we moved to California and she no longer had to work and was able to take care of me.
I was a really good athlete growing up and my parents invested a lot into my sports, pushing me to do better and better. I still remember missing a good number of free throws in a basketball game. When we got home at 10pm, my dad made me shoot 100 free throws and we were out there until 12:30am. The next morning I had to wake up at 5:30am and go to school but it showed me to work hard and keep pushing yourself because if you want to be great and stand out, you gotta do the work!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I started out helping my now husband flip homes. I was in medical sales but also helped in him on the side. There was one house we were renovating that was going to be in Palm Springs Modernism Week. So I knew we needed to stage the home. Up until then, he didn’t really stage the properties. That home received a lot of recognition, we sold the furniture with the property and my home staging business, Classy AF Interiors was born! I’ve seen how much staging transforms a home and gets the seller more money for the sale. Now being a realtor as well, I help my clients through every step of the process, I call it my “6 step bulletproof listing strategy” so they can make the most money on their biggest investment! I consult my clients figure out what to fix or renovate, I have my contractors come in and get the job done quickly, I stage the home and we put it on the market. With my experience as a home flipper since 2015, I know what buyers are looking for and I’m able to make that match for both ends of the transaction with my knowledge and skillset. To go back to the work ethic, it is sooooooo much more work than just listing the home like most realtors but I love it because once you see the end results, its worth all the trouble! That’s what makes me love what I do, the grind of it all and reaping the rewards for my clients!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My ability to never quit, get back up and continue on. Sometimes when things get really hard or I am overwhelmed. I allow myself to have a good 3 min cry to relieve that stress but its back to the grind.
Being a people person and having the skills to talk to strangers and make them feel comfortable around me very quickly. You wouldn’t believe how many people just don’t know how to communicate anymore! Whenever I meet new people, I always ask them questions about themselves or say something really obnoxious/strange to break the ice. I think I can knocked down people’s walls very quickly with this skillset.
My knowledge of listing properties (staging/interior design/renovation/marketing)
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I’m in a new career. I’ve only been a realtor for 3 years. The market has had challenges and a lot of people have quit based on these challenges. I’ve only worked harder and learned more to be a better for my clients. By being a own business owner (technically it’s 2 businesses), you have to wear ALL hats! That’s really challenging because as a social butterfly, I don’t want to sit at my computer and distribute marketing material online. Or I don’t want to learn how to optimize the SEO on my youtube page or run ads on google. But I have to do it, I’ve tried bringing on other people to handle these tasks but it always comes back to the fact that no one can keep up with me, and I might as well do it all myself even if it kills me! lol Hopefully I can figure that part out but I know a year ago I was not even close to being as knowledgeable about the direction of my business or know all the ins-and-outs.
