We recently connected with Catherine Trotter and have shared our conversation below.
Catherine, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by constantly pushing myself to try new things. When I challenge myself I step out of my comfort zone and discover new ideas. This process helps me think differently and inspires me to create more. Each new experience adds to my skills and encourages me to explore various paths in my work. By embracing challenges I keep my mind engaged and ready for new opportunities.
Reading new books is another important way I expand my knowledge. Books expose me to different perspectives and ideas that I might not encounter in my daily life. They help me understand complex topics and inspire my creativity. Each book I read adds depth to my thinking and fuels my imagination. By combining my challenges with the insights, I gain from reading I can maintain a vibrant and active creative spirit.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey began in 2002 when I graduated from Morgan State University with a mindset to make an impact in the lives of others in the community. Upon graduation I worked in the community as a Youth Organizer and then later I became a Community Organizer in NE Baltimore. As the years progressed, I then started working with leaders in the community to assist them to establish their 501C3 organizations. My experience of 22 years is in Strategic Planning and Organizational Development. I am the CEO of Strategic Collaboration Network, LLC and the Founder of House of New Beginnings, Inc. and Speak Life Tour. My personal mission in life is to help growing entrepreneurs to find their voice and to design a clear plan on how to execute their dreams.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
What keeps me moving forward is my unwavering determination to make an impact in the community. In order to do that I have to stay focused on the mission. My top three qualities are that I am consistent, determined, and resilient. I recommend to anyone on their journey write down your purpose and to read it to yourself everyone morning. Challenges will come but you have to remind yourself of why you are here. Remove yourself from surroundings that are not healthy for your growth.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Personal development is everything. A book that changed my life was Relentless. The past 12 months I had to be relentless and not allow life situations to derail me. My biggest area of growth was on my mindset. I had to evolve from my past into becoming who I am today.
