Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Catherine York. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Catherine, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my purpose through a blend of faith, a deep love for art, and my own personal love story. My journey began when my mother gave me my first camera as a teenager. I was instantly captivated by the freedom it gave me to express myself and to capture moments exactly as I saw them.
That passion led me to art school, where I explored everything from oil painting to ceramics, and ultimately, film photography. During college, I met the love of my life. As we planned our wedding and searched for our own photographer, something clicked: with my background in art and my lifelong love for photography, I could see myself telling love stories for others the way I wanted mine to be told.
So, I took the leap. Just a year later, I’m living my dream of documenting love in its truest form, creating art from the real moments that matter. Being married and deeply in love myself, I understand my clients’ stories in a way that feels personal. I know the weight of a moment and the magic in preserving it forever. That’s not just my career, it’s my purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My path to photography wasn’t a straight line, it was shaped by years of creative exploration through working many random jobs as a teenager, going through art school, and a fascination with how art can preserve emotion. Photography, though, has always been the medium that feels most like home.
Every couple I work with gets my full heart, because I know firsthand how meaningful these photographs will become. I recently experienced my own wedding day, and it deepened my understanding of what couples truly want captured: not just the big, obvious moments, but the quiet, fleeting ones you can’t put into words.
My work is rooted in intentionality, faith, and a commitment to preserving memories in a way that feels genuine and artful. Whether I’m photographing an intimate elopement in the Texas Hill Country or a grand celebration miles from home, my goal is the same, to tell each love story in a way that feels authentic, heartfelt, and true to the couple.
I look forward to wrapping up the year with holiday minis that clients can now book on my website!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think the three qualities that have shaped my journey the most are resilience, confidence, and grace in the process.
Resilience has carried me through the unpredictable nature of both business and the creative field. Not every opportunity works out, and not every season is full, but being able to get back up, keep learning, and move forward has been essential.
Confidence has been equally important not just in my skills, but in the value I bring to my clients. In the beginning, it’s easy to doubt yourself or compare your work to others. The turning point for me was realizing that my perspective, my style, and my story were worth sharing exactly as they are.
Finally, grace in the process has allowed me to grow without the constant pressure to have everything “perfect” right away. Building a career and a brand takes time, and giving myself permission to learn, pivot, and evolve has made the journey far more fulfilling.
For those just starting out, I’d say this: Resilience comes from showing up even when it’s hard, so keep creating no matter what. Confidence grows with practice, so put yourself out there even when you’re nervous. When things don’t happen overnight, extend yourself the same grace and trust that the process is shaping you into exactly who you’re meant to be.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me, especially my mother, was always being my number one supporter. She’s been the parent who cheers me on, believes in me, and reminds me that I can pursue my dreams even when I doubt myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her encouragement and her guidance in navigating what it takes to run your own business.
She leads by example, running both a nonprofit and a small business that bring awareness to human trafficking. Her passion, strength, and dedication make her my role model, my inspiration, and truly my best friend. Through her, I’ve learned not only the importance of resilience and purpose, but also the power of encouragement. Because of her, I try to be that voice of support not just for her in return, but for others whenever I can.
