Meet Cathleen Kuhns

We recently connected with Cathleen Kuhns and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cathleen, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I’ve always been someone who has been a leader. I’ve always had a boss mentality and knew my own business was the best plan for me. As a single mother the workforce is not designed to accommodate being a mother. So many dominos fell in my life that led me to having my own business. Animals have always been a part of my life since the time I was a small child. Having my own dog boarding business has made my life come full circle. It has been a blessing to do what I love.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I moved from the city to a country setting about 3 years ago to get my dream business started. After a lot of research, work, construction, and marketing my business launched on May 3rd, 2025. The dog boarding business is something that is much needed in my area. It doesn’t hurt that I love animals especially dogs! I have 3 dogs of my own. I care for my clients dogs like they are part of my family. All of the boarding dogs get a lot of one on one playtime, love, and spoiled with treats. I have repeat clients already and their pets are always excited to see me. The best part of waking up everyday is knowing I get to do a job I love!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities I feel that you need to have in my business is good communication, have a strong sense of who you are, and be personable. If I could give any advice to someone just starting their business is don’t give up. Starting a business from the ground up is hard and scary at times. Just know you can do it! Don’t expect for everyone to be rooting for you because that isn’t always the case. When I say be prepared to put your blood, sweat, and tears into your business; that’s what it takes.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My family have been instrumental in making my business come to life. Since it is family owned we all have a say and give each other ideas about how we can be better each day.
