We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Catrina Morbidelli a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Catrina, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
To keep my creativity alive, I tap into the journey that led me here. I earned an MFA in painting, but after graduating, I realized the fine art world wasn’t the right fit for me. It was a disorienting time, and for a while, I felt creatively lost. Then, I discovered yoga and completed a teacher training that opened up an entirely new way of channeling my creativity. Yoga became this blend of movement, art, and mindfulness that deeply resonated with me.
Now, my art background shapes who I am as a marketer. It allows me to approach problems from unique angles, make informed and bold creative decisions, and ensure every campaign has a thoughtful, intentional design behind it. Creativity flows from all aspects of my life—art, yoga, and marketing—and that’s how I keep it alive.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a yoga teacher, marketing consultant, and former fine artist, and my journey has taken a lot of twists and turns to get me to where I am today. I earned an MFA in painting, thinking the fine art world was where I belonged. But after diving deep into it, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. I went through a period of feeling creatively lost until I found yoga. Completing my yoga teacher training felt like coming home—it gave me a fresh, expansive way to use my creativity that was rooted in movement, mindfulness, and community. It’s been a beautiful journey.
Today, I focus on merging my creative background with my marketing career. I run Morbidelli Marketing Consulting, where I help brands tell their story in a way that feels authentic and connected. What excites me most about this work is the ability to use creativity in unconventional ways—to build something that resonates deeply with people and drives meaningful engagement. Whether it’s designing a social media strategy or creating engaging content, I draw heavily from my art background and yoga practice to infuse intention and creativity into everything I do.
Currently, I’m focused on expanding my consulting business while continuing to grow my yoga community through my monthly newsletters. I’ve also got some exciting client projects in the pipeline that involve new product launches and promotion calendar planning, which allows me to stretch my creativity even more. Ultimately, I’m passionate about blending creativity with thoughtful marketing to help brands, big or small, thrive.
At the heart of it all is the idea that creativity isn’t limited to one medium—it can evolve and shape-shift throughout our lives, just like it has for me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are adaptability, creativity, and empathy.
1. **Adaptability**: My path took many unexpected turns. After earning an MFA in painting, I thought I had my career mapped out in the fine art world, but when that didn’t align with my vision, I had to pivot. That adaptability led me to yoga, a completely different world, which ultimately opened doors to a new way of using my creativity. My marketing career has been shaped by this same willingness to embrace change, whether it’s learning new skills or adapting strategies to different clients.
**Advice**: For those early in their journey, be open to the unexpected. It’s okay if your path doesn’t look exactly how you imagined. Every twist brings new opportunities for growth. Stay curious and willing to pivot when necessary—life often has better plans than we do.
2. **Creativity**: Creativity has been the throughline in everything I do—from painting to yoga to marketing. It’s not just about making art, but about problem-solving, finding new perspectives, and bringing fresh ideas to the table. My art background deeply influences how I approach marketing, whether it’s designing a campaign or crafting content that speaks to an audience.
**Advice**: Develop creativity by embracing different experiences. Expose yourself to different forms of art, perspectives, and ways of thinking. Creativity comes from connecting dots between seemingly unrelated things. The more experiences you have, the more dots you have to connect.
3. **Empathy**: Whether teaching yoga or creating marketing strategies, empathy has been at the core of my success. Understanding people—whether they’re students on the mat or a target audience for a brand—allows me to meet them where they are and create meaningful connections. In marketing, it’s not just about selling a product but about telling a story that resonates with real people.
**Advice**: Cultivate empathy by actively listening to others and paying attention to what they need. Whether you’re early in your career or building relationships, being able to genuinely connect with people will make you a better leader, creator, and professional.
Ultimately, my journey taught me that embracing change, nurturing creativity, and leading with empathy are key to personal and professional fulfillment. Developing these qualities takes time, but the results are worth it.
