We were lucky to catch up with Caylie & Lawson Latimer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Caylie & Lawson, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Our optimism comes from a conscious effort to stay present and appreciate the life we have. Of course, like everyone else, we have our tough days. It’s not always easy to choose optimism, especially during challenging times. However, we find that making this choice, even when it’s difficult, is far more rewarding. We often say, “We don’t have to, we get to,” which helps us reframe our mindset and find gratitude in the present. Our love for the outdoors also plays a significant role in our positivity. Being immersed in beautiful scenery makes it hard not to feel optimistic. Sunrise beach dates have become a regular part of our routine, and they allow us to clear our minds and reconnect with each other.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We’re Caylie and Lawson, childhood best friends who found love and have been married for three adventurous years. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we’ve now made Virginia Beach, Virginia, our home sweet home. Our Catahoula Leopard dog, Remmie, is always by our side, whether we’re trying new hikes or going on road trips. Outside of work, you’ll often find us fishing or enjoying the beach, and we love documenting our experiences on our Instagram page @latimersinnature. Our goal has always been to build a community encouraging others to get outdoors while sharing the perfect and not-so-perfect moments from our travels.
I, Caylie, love designing and bringing creative ideas to life behind the scenes, while Lawson, a 6-year Navy veteran, manages everything else in our business endeavors. Together, we run several small businesses and Etsy shops, each fueled by our shared passion for creativity and craftsmanship. Our latest venture, Kountry Karves, is a laser engraving business where we specialize in creating a wide range of products. Whether it’s custom gifts for cherished moments or fulfilling large-scale business orders, we take pride in creating high-quality, personalized products.
Although working for ourselves can be challenging at times, we enjoy the freedom and flexibility that come with being our own bosses, and it gives us the opportunity to do what we love–spending time outdoors and traveling. If you’re interested in seeing our work or placing an order, please visit our website at www.kountrykarves.com. We’d love to create something special for you!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Embrace the challenges, learn from the failures, and always take pride in your progress! Admittedly, we’re still early in our journey and have to remind ourselves of these few things often.
A biggie for us was ditching the fear of failure. Trust us, at 25, we’ve had our fair share of doubters. People love to say the typical 9-to-5 is the only path to success. But we’ve learned that success looks different for everyone. Taking risks and bouncing back from setbacks have been huge in helping us grow and move forward.
Second, your worth isn’t defined solely by what follows behind the dollar sign. We’ve learned to celebrate small wins just as much as the big ones. Whether you’ve landed a new client, mastered a new skill, or simply made it through a tough day, these small wins are what eventually lead to the big milestones.
Thirdly, and perhaps most important, find your “why” and hold on to it tightly. It’s not just about setting goals; it’s about understanding why those goals matter to you personally. When challenges arise, it’s easy to lose motivation unless you remember why you started in the first place.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Definitely! We’d love to partner with outdoor brands or collab with fellow travelers who share our love for exploring. Whether you’re based in Virginia or anywhere else, we’d love to connect. Shoot us an email at latimersinnature@gmail.com or find us on Instagram @latimersinnature!
