Meet Ceci Mitre

We were lucky to catch up with Ceci Mitre recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ceci , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from seeing my parents work to maintain a household of 8. I never saw them call in sick, they always went to work early and came home late. At a young age, I learned that good things don’t come easy and easy things are not always good.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a professional photographer. I specialized in event photography, mainly Weddings & Quinceañeras. I get very excited during events because I know how much this means to a family. They gather together for a couple of hours to celebrate and seeing everyone happy brings me joy. I lost my father when I was 16 years old and if I would have known that my Quinceañera was going to be our last dance, I would have only danced with him all night. My focus during those events is capturing the candid moments I would have liked to have photos of with my family.

I also love food photography and my next goal is to open my services to restaurants as a food photographer. I currently run a food blog page that has grown immensely  and I have seen how helpful photography is to a restaurant.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that were the most impactful in my journey and still are would be honesty, reliability and being kind. My advice to anyone just starting out is to remember that clients don’t want to be lied to. As a business owner, I understand the need to always give the client what they want but sometimes we just have to be honest with ourselves and our clients and let them know what our limitations are. You are not saying no, but simply admitting that you lack experience. Show your clients you are reliable by answering their questions in a timely manner. I believe wholeheartedly that if I am not busy and a call or text comes in after hours then I will simply answer it. Remember that being kind doesn’t cost anything and it encourages others to do the same. We really just don’t know what people are going through and showing an act of kindness can make this world a happier place.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements. It reminds you of why you can’t take anything personally, make assumptions, why you must be impeccable with your word and always do your best. This book really allowed me to reflect on all the times I made assumptions and took things personally and now I don’t. It really helped me in my personal life but also in my business. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend it.
