Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to CeCiiii Yang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi CeCiiii, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I constantly review my previous works and life photos, and I organize them into collections with theme once a few weeks, months and years. For example, I post what I’ve experienced and done on my personal social media account once a week as a track of life. I write a list of what I’ve learned, what I’ve done, and what I need to do in the future every semester. Once a year, I work on a review of all the artworks I’ve created during the year.
I found this a very satisfying process, and it built my confidence through the visualization of my every single progress and growth. These traces of development also support me whenever I face obstacles, doubts, or failure, reminding me that I have the ability to do more than I think I could.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m CeCiiii, a visual artist and designer now studying at Parsons School of Design. My works have been showcased in NYC galleries, and I was invited as an artist influencer by the MET during the press review of “recasting the past– the art of Chinese bronzes,1100-1900”.
I love sketching, painting, typography, illustration, books, cooking, pigeons…. People usually describe my work, whether it is fine art or designs, as systematic, conceptual, or even “scientific.” I guess that’s my way of seeing the world: there are always inlaid routes or systems guiding everything, even the mundane, the seemingly unpredictable, the sentiments. I always believe that ideas don’t come all of a sudden; they come when you accumulate enough sparks, which you’ve intentionally captured. I’ve done a lot of random things, such as taking 1-minute portraits and chatting with strangers on the subway; spending hours sketching in art museums, and creating a poster every time my roommate and I cooked a meal. Art and Design are my ways of living.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In the realm of art and design, I think three important mindsets to have are: make shitty works, be critical of what’s already been recognized, and use everything around you. I think people sometimes think of artists as almost mysterious creatures who just know what to do and make something great. That’s not true. Artists and designers sometimes make decisions purely based on what’s left in their studios. Don’t be afraid of starting to make some random stuff; learn from masters as if they are just someone in your life who would be pissed off by the NYC subway like you would; and the moment you start to believe your thoughts and feelings matter, you start to make something great.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
During my freshman year, I conducted artist research on Trisha Brown, one of the most successful choreographers and artists of the 1900s. I searched for a lot of information about her until I could piece together her entire art journey. Before being recognized, she was also a student who came to NYC to study, created art in the neighborhood, and had fun with her art fellows. Then I realize that I can do anything I want, and what may seem useless and daily can one day become something essential to my career.
