We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cecilia Fabian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cecilia below.
Cecilia , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Being the only one who looked like me in the room taught me to be tough, resilient, and positive. I realized that to succeed, I needed to show strength, to keep my brand and my voice strong and clear. Staying positive, even in spaces where others don’t look like me or share my experiences, is a survival strategy. Its’s about staying afloat and remaining true to myself while embracing my unique perspective. This has allowed me to create and promote something truly original in a world that often fails to recognized the full spectrum of voices.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Turning to crochet as a therapeutic outlet after the tragedy of 9/11 and channeling that healing into a thriving brand is incredibly powerful. I transformed a deeply personal loss into a source of strength, building a community around Chila for Fun that supports and uplifts others. From providing mentoring programs to creating one-of-a-kind pieces, I am not only shaping a unique brand but also empowering others to realize their potential in fashion and the arts. My work on the community board, combined with my dedication to fostering talent, adds such meaningful layer to my mission.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my foundational skills is inspiring. I turned financial limitations into a strength by cultivating self-sufficiency and honing a hands-on approach. My background in production gave me a unique edge in navigating business demands, and my confidence in my brand has been key to its growth. This mindset, has allowed me to truly believe in one’s work, capturing the resilience and resourcefulness that has shaped my journey.
My advice to anyone in their early journey is perseverance, belief in your work and leveraging all your resources, that can make a world of difference in building a business!!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with a talented team of models, photographers, filmmakers, makeup artists, stylists, social media expert. Models to showcase my collection, photographers and filmmakers to capture both the final looks and the creative process, makeup artists to bring unique styles to life on each model, social media expert to help me get on the map as influencer, and stylists to help me position my work in settings like wardrobe racks, magazines, music videos, and beyond. Lets create something inspiring and impactful together!!
