We were lucky to catch up with Cedric Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.

Cedric , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

I firmly believe my self-discipline stems from the understanding that life will have its ups and downs, but nothing changes until I take action. Sometimes, I reflect on the significant sacrifices others have made for me to be here and to have the opportunities I do. This compels me to do my part, ensuring that future generations can aspire to greater heights. Like many others, I used to procrastinate, but I eventually realized that growth does not come from staying in my comfort zone. Remembering the tough times and the lessons I’ve learned keeps me disciplined and prevents me from repeating the same mistakes.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hello, my name is Cedric Smith, and I am the owner of Greenlight Inspections LLC, a local home inspection company based in Maryland. I was born and raised in West Baltimore and am a husband and father of five. As a first-generation business owner, I have started multiple trades in construction and now want to offer my inspection services to clients.

I am passionate about educating potential homebuyers on the overall health and condition of prospective homes and sharing in the excitement of homeownership. Growing up, there were not many homeowners in my community, so being part of someone else’s journey to homeownership is incredibly rewarding.

One important message I want to convey is the significance of knowing and maintaining your home. This investment will be with you for a long time, and understanding how to care for it will ensure that it remains a valuable asset.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I believe three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey are integrity, consistency, and faith. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to take risks, keep your word, and always be honest yet professional.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth has been becoming more social, as I’m definitely an introvert. Like many of us, when we’re passionate or knowledgeable about something, we can talk about it all day and night. For me, that passion is construction and homes, and I’m always willing to discuss it if it helps others. Occasionally, I receive calls from past clients with questions about their homes or to thank me for advice given during the home inspection that proved helpful.
