Meet Cee Lashley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cee Lashley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cee below.

Cee, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I began seeing my work and ideas replicated in business situations, without any acknowledgement or credit, publicly or privately. It stung initially because these were very successful creatives and business owners that I looked up to. Then, I realized they would only plagiarize my ideas if they had value. I pivoted mentally when that light came on in my mind. Since then I’ve never doubted my ability to ideate and create impactful work. It took away that lingering fear that comes with imposter syndrome and gave me confidence to speak with authority in everything related to my field.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My company is #lifeasasocialite, a full-service marketing and consulting agency. We handle digital marketing and strategy for independent businesses, people and brands. Our client space is a large one, including restaurants, real estate, and athletes.

We specialize in finding growth opportunities and help our clients create very specific strategies to achieve that growth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resiliency, Adaptability, and Teachability. These have been constants since I started. Resiliency because how can you lose if you don’t quit? Adaptability because every industry grows and evolves. Being able to adapt authentically in a niche way removes your ceiling. Teachability because you should continuously be a student of your craft. My advice to someone early in their journey would be to develop their versions of these three things.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents are the epitome of those three qualities I mentioned earlier. From a young age, I saw them take chances on themselves with their own entrepreneurial ventures. They made me tag along and help, even when I didn’t want to. I didn’t know how much being in those environments would impact me until I became an adult. The truth is, watching them successfully be owner / operators and creative directors left a lasting impact on my belief system in my ability to create something from “nothing”.  It’s a major reason why I’m an entrepreneur now.
