Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cesar Jaramillo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cesar, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
When I was a teenager, I found out that dancing was my passion and my purpose in life. I used to dance without the knowledge of my parents. I was afraid they wouldn’t support me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am originally from Medellín, Colombia, where I discovered my passion for dance at the age of 12. Upon relocating to the United States in 1996, I began dancing with a traditional Colombian folklore group. In 2005, I founded Jaramillo’s Latin Dance Academy in Greenville, SC. We began with a small group of individuals united by the mission of bringing the Latin community together, providing a safe and welcoming space to celebrate their love for dance and culture.
Over the years, the academy expanded its offerings, adding classes such as modeling, Quinceañeras, wedding dances, and more. We also started hosting events, including our renowned annual gala every November, which allows our students to showcase the progress they’ve made over the year to their families and the community. In 2005, we launched the Colombian Festival, which we temporarily paused before resuming it three years ago.
What I find most rewarding about owning a studio is the opportunity to share my knowledge with young teens, children, and members of our community—especially those who may be unfamiliar with Latin culture but are open to learning about it. In 2025, we are excited to relocate to a brand-new, larger studio that will offer expanded services, including fitness classes, lounge areas, and many more amenities to better serve our community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three key qualities that have had the most significant impact on my journey are perseverance, consistency, and passion.
To effectively develop these qualities, I advise focusing on four fundamental principles: knowledge, discipline, professionalism, and tolerance. These attributes form the foundation for personal and professional growth, helping individuals stay committed to their goals and navigate challenges with resilience and grace.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My beautiful wife, Diana Jaramillo.
