Meet Cesar Mendoza

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cesar Mendoza. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Cesar , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

“My work ethic comes from my parents. They always emphasized the importance of hard work, discipline, and taking pride in everything I do. Growing up, they set an example by showing dedication in their own work and encouraged me to always give my best effort, no matter the task. Their guidance taught me to stay focused, push through challenges, and never settle for less than my best.”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At Underground Cutz, we’re all about more than just a fresh haircut. We’re about creating a space where people feel confident, comfortable, and ready to take on the world. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, the three qualities that have been most impactful are humility, hard work, and a relentless drive to never stop trying to do better. Each of these has shaped not only my personal growth but also the success of Underground Cutz.

Humility: Staying humble allowed me to always be open to learning, whether from clients, colleagues, or the experiences that come with running a business. It kept me grounded and reminded me that there’s always room to grow. My advice to those starting out is to never think you know it all — embrace the opportunity to learn, listen, and grow from every experience.
Hard Work: There’s no substitute for putting in the time and effort. In a business like this, it takes countless hours of practice, dedication to perfecting your craft, and staying consistent, even on tough days. If you’re early in your journey, develop a strong work ethic, be willing to put in the effort, and don’t get discouraged by setbacks. They’re part of the process.
Never Stop Trying to Do Better: This mindset has pushed me to always aim higher, whether it’s refining my skills, improving the customer experience, or growing the business. No matter how good things get, there’s always room to improve. For anyone starting out, focus on continuous improvement. Push yourself to be better today than you were yesterday.
If you’re just starting your journey, keep these principles at the forefront. Build a foundation of humility, work hard every day, and constantly strive for improvement — that’s how you’ll keep moving forward, no matter where you are in your path.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that there’s always someone out there in a worse situation. This perspective helps me refocus and put things into context. It can be easy to get caught up in the pressure, but remembering that challenges are part of the journey and are often temporary can give me a sense of calm.

Here are a few strategies I use when things get heavy:

Take a step back: I try to step away from the situation for a moment — whether it’s taking a short break, going for a walk, or just breathing deeply. It helps clear my mind and reduce immediate stress.
Prioritize: I break things down into manageable tasks. Instead of looking at the big picture and feeling overwhelmed, I focus on what needs to get done first and tackle things one at a time.
Seek support: I’ve learned not to be afraid to lean on others. Whether it’s friends, family, or even employees, talking things through with someone can provide clarity and relief.
Shift my mindset: Remembering that my situation isn’t the worst can also be a tool for gratitude. It shifts my mindset from focusing on problems to recognizing what’s going well.
To anyone feeling overwhelmed, I’d say: It’s okay to feel this way. The key is to take a step back, breathe, and remember that things will pass. Focusing on one thing at a time and leaning on others can make a huge difference.
