Meet Chamille Gathing

We were lucky to catch up with Chamille Gathing recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chamille , thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?

In order to communicate effectively I always ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding, listen without interrupting, be mindful of my body language, tone, and facial expressions.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

With over 22 years of experience in healthcare, I built my career on a foundation of compassion, leadership, and purpose. As an accomplished HR Director with a focus on long-term care, I’m dedicated to connecting with people where they are in life—helping them grow both personally and professionally. My ability to see potential in others and guide them toward success has made me a trusted leader and advocate for staff development and workplace culture. I earned my Executive Director license, is a certified grant writer, minister, and notary—each role deepening my ability to serve the community with integrity and excellence. Whether leading teams, mentoring emerging professionals, or supporting organizational goals, my approach will always remain the same: lead with empathy, empower others, and create lasting impact through meaningful human connection. I have been blessed with the strength of my mother, the determination of my father, the faith of my grandmother, the love and compassion of my grandfather, and the spiritual guidance of my aunts.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three skills that were the most impactful on my journey is having emotional intelligence, great communication skills, and being able to think critically. My advice to anyone pursuing a career in healthcare and leadership is to lead with heart and purpose. Every interaction is an opportunity to learn something new about people, about leadership, and about yourself. Never underestimate the power of listening, empathy, and connection; those qualities can open doors that knowledge alone cannot.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I like to step away and reconnect with nature. Hiking is one of my favorite ways to clear my mind it helps me refocus and find perspective. I also love scuba diving; being underwater gives me a sense of peace and balance that’s hard to find anywhere else. Both activities remind me to stay grounded, breathe, and approach challenges with calm and clarity. I’ve found that maintaining this kind of balance helps me return to work refreshed, focused, and ready to lead effectively.
