Meet Chance Sanderlin

We recently connected with Chance Sanderlin and have shared our conversation below.

Chance, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Being able to engage myself in life’s experiences. Exploring new places, seeing fresh perspectives, and engaging with the world around me often ignite inspiration and spark new ideas, helping me think more creatively and broaden my imagination.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I launched Overrated Cultuur at the age of 12, just shy of turning 13. The idea came to me one winter while riding in the back of my mother’s truck. With the grass no longer growing and me eager to find ways to earn money, the concept of creating clothing sparked within me. Now, at 19, my passion for the art of clothing has only grown stronger. Through each garment, I tell my story, sharing moments of joy and pain with the world. Fashion has become a powerful outlet for self-expression, allowing me to share my identity in every stitch while expanding my business a true blessing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three core principles guide my life: patience, persistence, and passion. These pillars serve as the foundation for my daily actions and aspirations, keeping me grounded as I work toward both short- and long-term goals. Patience teaches me that success is a journey, not an instant reward, requiring time, effort, and growth. Persistence gives me the strength to stay consistent and push through challenges, no matter how difficult. Passion ignites my dreams with purpose and dedication, helping me remain focused and undistracted as I pursue the fulfillment of my life’s vision. Together, these principles shape my path to success.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

A defining moment of growth in my life came when I chose to leave my hometown of Baltimore City and move to Atlanta to pursue my dreams. Attending Clark Atlanta University, I arrived in a city where I knew no one. This leap of faith, however, marked a turning point. Embracing independence, I took full control of my journey, committing to the growth of my business and my personal goals. Since then, I’ve remained dedicated to achieving everything I envisioned upon my arrival, continually striving to turn my dreams into reality.
